Does Ben Brown still have a regular shift on the News Channel, or is he now just the main cover person when everyone else is off? Bit of a comedown if he is, especially after 10 years on the channel.

Seems to me it's now Joanna Gosling on the 9-2 shift with Annita Mcveigh covering whenever Joanna's doing the Victoria Derbyshire programme, Simon McCoy & Jane Hill on the 2-5 shift, and then Clive Myrie/Martine Croxall in the evenings. Saturdays and Sundays seem to be Gavin Esler in the morning, Maxine Mawhinney in the afternoon and then Martine in the evening. Whereas Ben seems to just pop up anywhere in the schedule, be it morning, afternoon or evening any day of the week. I know there's less slots on the channel now, and he is still one of the go to people to anchor on location, and still sporadically presents BBC One bulletins, I just see no reason why Ben can't still have some kind of a regular shift especially when everyone else has still seemingly got one (unless Ben's happy with that arrangement?).

Lemmy's obituary package was voiced by Nick Serpell, the BBC's obituaries editor - not sure I've heard him on air before. Presumably Nick Higham had the day off.

Nick Serpell was originally at BBC Radio Cornwall, as part of the news team for a while. He's a cornishman originally, and a damn good journalist. A little surprised to discover he's the obituaries editor.

And yet there can still be short of staff, Maxine is off on holls so someone will be covering the weekends slots for the next three weekends. So maybe Ben will got those slots? Or Nicholas will be back ?

From what I can tell, there is a degree of shift 'sharing' now compared to before the changes. Joanna and Annita seem to do three days each a week - Annita normally on the morning shift, Joanna appears twice on the morning shift and once on Derbyshire. Jane and Simon are the most frequent afternoon presenters, although it's not unusual for it to be presented by only one of them. Emily or another presenter still does Mondays in place of Jane, and Ben seems to replace Simon for a fortnight every couple of months or so. Ben otherwise fills in on various weekday and weekend shifts, or presents on location.

Clive does the evening shift three or four days a week, Martine does three days towards the end of the week. Maxine and Gavin are the other two regular weekend presenters, though you often see Shaun Ley or other presenters appearing instead. Clive regularly appears on weekend BBC 1 bulletins, and sometimes on Network bulletins. Jane and Simon are both frequently seen on the One (and Jane sometimes on the Six or Ten).

Hope this helped.

I haven't been watching BBCWN so frequently recently, but I noticed Geeta doing the 8am hour in Studio C, and then 9am is presented by a different person from Studio D. I presume Geeta comes back for 10am and 11am news (maybe in C again)? What's the reason behind the awkward changes?

The first 15 minutes of the 9AM programme is a BBC News Channel Simulcast - it is still from Studio C but with the news channel presenter and newsroom backdrop. It is so that there is no need to staff studio E for 15 minutes prior to the start of the Victoria Derbyshire programme. Geeta now only presents at 8AM and 10AM with 11 now being branded as GMT.
