Yeah. I think this story will have lots of angles. Germany, Belgium and Greece so far. I think though it was expected that he would go to Paris as a former correspondent who was based there until last year.
I suspect Lyse Doucet may be needed elsewhere as they've got correspondents on the ground who can translate on the fly in Paris.

Are the BBC so short of presenters that Friday-Sunday the News Channel presenter is presenting the international hour?
There have been short of Presenters for months now, its all part of cost cutting. Ben is still in Paris is he not? Its shame there cant get Maxine mawhinney more often but shes busy training people up, Not sure while Nicholas isn't used more often.

I would assume that it was down to shared coverage of the Mali Hostage crisis. When major stories like this happen the rota can end up being shared - with either the News Channel or BBC World presenter presenting, or indeed both presenting together.
Nothing more than that.

Good idea, considering the breaking news story but it was a normal bulletin. I'm amazed at the level of coverage the BBC brought to the story compared to a week ago and considering those events.
I wish they would more double-headed breaking news presentation. It works very well.
I suspect Friday was due to a shortage of presenters and since Martine Croxall was free, it made sense to use her. I think this works for a Friday considering the rota on BBC World News on a weekday.

Almost certainly a choice to simulcast and join the BBC News Channel with BBC World News, and it is likely that BBC News Channel led the simulcast if it came from the BBC News Channel studio and had a BBC News Channel presenter. If BBC World News had led the simulcast the reverse would have been the case.
By merging the two operations you don't spread correspondents and location presenters across two outlets, and avoid duplication.
Sometimes they will double-head with a presenter from each channel - but only if this is possible. (Sometimes one of the presenters needs to be on standby to pickup after the simulcast)
