The best reporters dont usually make good presenters and the best presenters dont usually make good reporters.

Usually... I think Ben Brown is one of the many exceptions. His reporting is exceptional but he's made his mark as equally good in the studio: warm and relaxed but authoritative when needs be. Was a bit of a rabbit in the headlights when we started but has overcome this.

Also think Jeremy Thompson is as good in the field as he is behind a desk.

Chris Eakin is/was another exception. Very good on location and just as good in the studio.

You could also add Jon Kay and Christian Fraser to that mix as well.

Will there be double header overnight tonight?

Very strange for Alice Baxter to be on air for an hour only. Now they seem to have left breaking news mode partially.

It would have been because the weekend shift, like Newsday is, 11pm-2am and then 2am-6am. Which is why Alice stopped at 2am. Who presented from 2?

Daniela Ritorto was on from 0200....

I would have thought considering what had happened to either have Martine Croxall stay on till 2GMT or have Daniela Ritorto start an hour early. This has often been the case with breaking news, they've pulled people in early to cover.

Speaking of Ben Brown, he is now continuing through this afternoon, on the hour, presenting on location from Paris. Tim Willcox was also on earlier at one point. Annita McVeigh came in at 1.30pm and has presented from the half hour to the TOTH since then; Gavin Esler was on air from 9.30 this morning and before and after a special news programme presented by Ben Brown (with BBC ONE) from midday until 12.20. I hope some 'News Fix' site somewhere gets it right!

Just hearing Emily Maitlis will be presenting a special Newsnight at 8pm tonight.

EDIT: 4.15pm - Tim Willcox now back on air.

Tim Willcox was only on as a reporter role this time, not presentation as such.

This morning he seemed to be presenting. Is Christian Fraser going to be there as an ex-Paris correspondent? And Lyse Doucet as she can do on the fly translation?

And Lyse Doucet as she can do on the fly translation?

Following the Charlie Hebdo attack, it took Lyse around a day to arrive in Paris, so she could be there tomorrow or at least by Monday.

Christian Fraser however, he has been tweeting about the attacks, but doesn't seem to be heading there. BBC obviously wanting other presenters there.

Lyse is in Cairo, Egypt isn't she? So either it's taking time to arrange travel or they want to keep her there.
