What I can see happening is the NC rebranding as BBC World News and slowly evolving into a UK opt out of World.

Which wouldn't be a total disaster, that way if in the medium to long term things improved at the BBC, the infrastructure would still be there to relaunch the News Channel.

[Plus there aren't four shifts a day considering the One is produced by the News channel and frequently uses its presenters, as does Victoria Derbyshire (which people on here frequently forget is a News Channel commission, not BBC Two). Ben could even have taken over Chris' slot at weekends (he has presumably taken over some of Chris' OB duties) yet Gavin Esler seems to have taken it instead.

For what it's worth I'm not a fan of Ben as a presenter, and don't think the schedules have been nearly as strong post-TVC (save for Martine Croxall).

I wouldn't get hung up on the precise numbers of shifts.

The Victoria Derbyshire programme situation is (hopefully for Victoria) a temporary one, so I'm not really including that. Also the News at One presenting roster is affected by George Alagiah's illness.

The reality is that in terms of the News Channel:
One double headed morning shift has been removed, and the second extended and cut to one presenter
One evening shift has been removed and the second extended.

That's four presenting rosters removed during the week.

At weekends one shift has been removed on both Saturday and Sunday (which is effectively Chris Eakin's old shift).

With all those changes there are bound to be changes in individual roles, but I wouldn't necessarily see them as demotions.

Mike Embley is hosting World Business Report right now. I don't think I ever recall him presenting this segment. Has he done this often?

He was actually presenting the news in the last hours and now he is doing WBR. So Laura and Mike will be doing the 'In the News' segment soon. Probably filling in for someone. Normally new presenters come on in this hour. I have not seen him doing WBR before.

Also, Newsday had a different presenter in London from the usual roster.

edit: it's just Laura Westbrook doing the 'In the News' section. No Mike.

Is Today a national holiday?

Laura Westbrook is doing the press review on her own.

Perhaps whoever is on the early business shift has had a mishap/late illness.

There's a bank holiday on Monday.

Laura Westbrook is doing the press review on her own.

That's what I think too. It's unusual to not have the business presenter rejoin for the last segment of the hour. Will have to see who is doing Business Live today.

Maybe the business presenter either overslept and is running late. There was no tease for business at the cold open.

Caroline Hepker has now arrived to take over WBR.

I suspect whoever was rostered on the early BBC World Business shift was ill this morning.

Caroline presented Business Live with Alice Baxter, and has now switched to doing the daytime business on the News Channel.

Jamie Robertson is now doing the daytime business shift on BBC World News.

It has to be said that Mike Embley did a faultless job presenting the early WBR.

but wait.. if Alice Baxter & Caroline Hepker did Business Live surely Alice Baxter should have been the one presenting the early WBR editions??
