Good though it was, it did make me wonder if any actual news was happening in the world this afternoon.

The agenda and news value of the story seemed, to me, to justify wall-to-wall coverage throughout. The presence of so many World leaders in one place alone being significant. A huge event elsewhere would have been needed to pull away at any point.

I'd say they were broadcasting one of the most significant news stories of the last few years.

Does anyone know when Katya Adler is supposed to assume role as Europe Editor? I'm sure BBC said she would take over from Gavin Hewitt in Autumn 2014, but Gavin is still incumbent.

All we've been told is early next year, so early this year. She's been on maternity leave. With all that's going on in Europe, it's going to be some transition from Gavin to Katya. Gavin has been phenomenal in the job, most underrated and very intelligent in his analysis. I know Katya will have big shoes to fill, but I'm sure she'll more than take to the challenge. She's produced great reports and documentaries before, so I'm in no doubt events in Europe will really show her best - she is a very diverse journalist after all.

An announcement is expected next week on the role of Education Editor for BBC News.

With Penny Marshall now back at ITV, I suspect they'll go for an internal candidate, given the union pressure on management for recruiting outsiders.

Has anything been said about a business programme being fronted by Sally Bundock and Ben Thompson jointly on the NC and WN at the slot when the NC takes over from Breakfast?

Thanks! Sounds good! Is this different from the programme announced in July in the cuts press release?
