Its interesting how Newsnight shares presenters with NC. Emily Maitlis and Gavin Esler are on the NC more often than not but you'd never see Kirsty Wark or Evan Davis on the NC, nor Jeremy Paxman for that matter.

For a start Gavin Esler hasn't been a Newsnight presenter for almost a year now.

Like you I'd also be surprised if Jeremy Paxman was on BBC News but then I'd also be surprised if he was on Newsnight either. The presumable reason that Emily Maitlis appears on both is that she (like Gavin Esler wasn't) isn't one of the main presenters of Newsnight in that she appears on it infrequently or at least not as much as Wark/Davis/Kuenssberg are.

You could also ask why Fiona Bruce and Sophie Raworth never present the News at Five when they're also on shift to present the Ten. Huw Edwards manages fine.

Why do Fiona Bruce and Sophie Raworth never present the news at five when Huw Edwards manages fine?
Because Fiona Bruce and Sophie Raworth present other programmes too!

Cheeky as hell but I'll go on...!

IF THEY ARE SUBSTITUTING, THEY VERY RARELY PRESENT THEIR OWN PROGRAMMES.

Oh, I left my caps on....

Often when Fiona Bruce is doing the Ten on a Friday, she is also doing the Six as well. So she couldn't do both the Five and the Six whilst still doing the Ten.

At least there's someone who can give a constructive answer.

Perhaps you would get better answers if you weren't being personal (one of the rules incidentally) and implying that other presenters are outrageous for not doing the same shifts that Huw does (not constructive, another rule that ironically you just complained about)

BBC News does miss Emily Maitlis presenting more permanently. The channel is much more watchable when she's presenting.

I used to like her but since she's been away and then come back I've just suddenly realised she is ever so monotone in her delivery.

And she's no doubt devastated to not have your approval.

The News at Five is a different programme with its own presenting team. It happens that one of the presenters also presents at ten o'clock. You may as well ask why Huw Edwards doesn't present at six o'clock when he does the Ten, like Fiona Bruce manages to do.
