Interestingly, Karin Giannone presented her first Global yesterday and was truly excellent in the slot. I would actually like to see Karin as it's permanent presenter.
Karin has presented Global many times before but I agree she is very good on that slot.
She's co-presented in the past whilst Jon Sopel was on location leading the programme.
Lucy wouldn't be leaving I don't think, she had a shift Tuesday to Thursday on the generic bulletins from studio B during the early evening (UK Time) until she left that slot to cover Impact.
I didn't say she was leaving the channel. I carefully said she was leaving the slot in Impact, which Yalda Hakim is taking over.
I further speculated that Lucy would be a possibility for The World Today.
It's really interesting how in a space of few months BBC World has lost (due to different circumstances) all of its main faces, that had their own, branded bulletins and were used in promo material for the channel. They have a very tough task of replacing them but I fear the new crop will not be able to match up to the previous one, especially their new faces. I wish they would give permanent slots to the few channel veterans left, like Dobbie, Eades or the omnipresent Wilcox. I'm not so sure about Hakim and Daniela Ritorto etc. Also there will be a lack of male presenters, especially the older, experienced ones. They need to get the balance right when making the new presentation schedule.
I agree to some extent, Rados. For one reason or another, the running order has been turned on its head:
The World Today | Sadly, Komla and Martine no longer there.
The Morning Slot | Nik Gowing retiring imminently
GMT | George Alagiah is unavoidably away
12G | Karin is there now permanently. Thats a good thing.
Impact | Mishal Husain gone. Lucy Hockings being moved. Yalda Hakim coming in.
Global and The Hub | Soapy going. Nik going.
World News Today | No change so far.
Business Edition | No change so far.
Overnights and Newsday | Still in tact.
Weekends | A bit of a lottery of late. Never know who's going to appear. But, not a real issue.
I agree that the Channel needs to make greater use of the stalwarts, namely Messrs Eades, Dobbie and Embley. Familiar faces and well liked by the audiences. Same goes for Lucy Hockings! Karin Giannone and Zeinab Badawi. Adnan Nawaz.
Of the newer crop, I actually think Daniela Ritorto is a good presenter. She's been quite frequently across all bulletins and slots lately and settling in fine. Same for Rajesh. And Alice.
The decision on Impact is probably the one that puzzles me the most. I thought Lucy Hockings was doing a splendid job and, subject to her wishing to, I would have personally retained her there.
I guess we must always bear in mind that, like any job, the presenter (employee) may not wish to do certain roles, regardless of how perfect we news junkies believe they're suited to the role!

I'd be surprised if Lucy moved back to the 0500-0800 slot - she did that before Jonathan Charles.
I think a male presenter will get Global since most of the time Sopel's fill ins were males as well (Atkins, Wilcox) while women were reserved for Impact.
