Interesting article from The Guardian about Sian Williams which implies she won't be back anytime soon.

So the question stands-Who will be The News at One Deputy when Kate Silverton goes on Maternity Leave

I would has it a guess of a rotation between Jon Sopel, Jane Hill or possibly Emily Maitlis.

Emily seems to be with Newsnight only at the moment but Simon McCoy seems to be doing the News at One regularly. In other news related to the BBC News at One , Sophie Raworth will be presenting a new daytime Watchdog programme for about a month from Monday, i am guessing she won't be presenting the news during this time.

I think Watchdog Test House is a pre-recorded series (unlike Watchdog Daily), so Sophie has probably already have recorded some or all of it. I don't think it will mean she won't be presenting the news during the period it is on-air.

Or rather, at least as I read it, is not expected to return as a BBC Newsreader. I wonder where that leaves her on Radio 4, as her last broadcast on Saturday Live ended with a simple "I'm off on leave", and until recently the website used her photo to illustrate the programme. I imagine Richard Coles, at least, is freelance (and presume the same is true of Annita Anand and co.) so it's not improbable Sian would return even without rejoining the BBC, but I can't find any implications she will?

Yes but I believe there is another series of the live show in the planning.

Sian's new website says
In 2012, I rejoined Radio 4 as co-presenter of Saturday Live and continued to present TV news bulletins, while also hosting prime-time BBC1 formats like Your Money Their Tricks and National Treasures Live. I’ve also guest hosted The Andrew Marr Show and Crimewatch. I’m currently working on an interview show for the BBC and on projects for ITV .

Was wondering whether Carrie Gracie has began her new post as China Editor? Regarding this weekends events I would've thought she would make her debut appearance covering the missing plane at Beijing airport.

She was down as starting sometime in Spring. Given that we're now in spring, I'm guessing it could be this month.

Kamal Ahmed, new Business Editor, joins in late March.

She rebuffed this suggestion on Twitter pretty quickly.

Who Sian? She said on twitter that she is still in broadcasting. She said nothing about returning to bulletins or her R4 show. She is no longer on BBC staff and we know already that she is working on 2 ITV shows. With her website also saying she is working on a BBC interview series.

Shame the BBC couldn't keep Sian on the national news, a great presenter imo. Seems like she quitely left.
