Alice Baxter now very much newscasting in her stride. I wonder if she's to be the permanent replacement for Martine Dennis at weekends? Alice has now grown on me, I have to admit.

And the turbines have very clearly been tamed.

Haha, well turbines aside, she has always had an amazing figure to add to the package. Also a rather husky set of voice, well that depends on individual liking I guess.

On the World Today, anyone knows who will be Naga Munchetty's alternate presenter to take Komla's place?

It seems Naga Munchetty is now presenting everyday , so their may be no need for a replacement, she has done Monday-Friday for the last couple of weeks in addition to appearing on Breakfast at the weekend.

I don't suppose that arrangement can continue though, it's probably just temporary for a little while. If she's working Monday-Friday, travelling up to Salford on Friday or Saturday and working Sunday, she's not even getting any days off!

That is true , she worked Saturday this week as well so it does seem unsustainable. I don't know who they could use instead though , perhaps Daniela Ritorto or Sally Bundock on Friday as has happened previously.

Agree it would be rather impractical considering the workload, most week-long presenters usually present for four days at most, usually Mon-Thu, and Fri being done by a substitute. Moreover, in past trend, Naga always takes a week long off every fortnight or so, hence Komla or Martine Dennis takes over. Now with some of you speculating the grown to be likeable Alice taking over from Martine for weekends, maybe she could also be a candidate for World Today, the week-long presenter when Naga is off.

Also, any of you could recall who were the usual World Today presenters way back in the past, when the program was officially The World Today? If I'm not mistaken, Martine presented substantially for that, usually partnering with Tanya Beckett and Sally Eden, who had left BBC.

ps. Am gonna miss the motherly style Martine uses to tame Aaron Helselhurst when they partnered up occasionally.

I don't know exact dates but it was initially Martine Dennis and Tanya Beckett as you correctly state.

On the business side Sally took over from Tanya in 2002.

On the news side I don't know exact dates but Anita McNaught was initially the Friday presenter. Lindsey Brancher was also quite common. David Eades took over presenting in 2003, Lucy Hockings in 2006, and Jonathan Charles had taken over by the 2008 revamp but I'm not sure of the exact date. Then when he left in early 2011, Naga and Komla took over.

However, I can remember about 1000 other presenters all having their go in the seat!

I suspect Naga will in future work Monday-Thursday on the early morning BBC World shift and then Sunday on Breakfast, with someone else presenting Friday to Sunday on BBC World.

Given that Jonathan Charles used to present every week, I can't see why Naga won't take on the role full time.

Bear in mind that she only presented Breakfast on Saturday this week due to Susanna's Strictly Tour commitments (Louise worked Monday-Wednesday).

When The World Today came back in September 2001 it was presented by Martine Dennis and Tanya Beckett Monday-Thursday with Lindsey Brancher or Mike Embley leading on Fridays. Tanya's relief business presenters were initially Sara Coburn and Jamie Robertson.

Anita McNaught joined the team in 2002 and Adrian Finighan, David Jessel and Nisha Pillai all started relief presenting TWT during 2003. Martine eventually left TWT and started presenting the 0800-1200 shift when Stephen Cole left BBC World. I think this all happened in 2003-ish as well. Shortly afterwards David Eades became the regular presenter with Sally Bundock, and you've captured the rest of it in your post.

Mariko Oi said on twitter that she is looking forward to joining the Newsday team on Thursday this week.

Would this mean a returning face to the screen?

Looks so, I'd assume she's back to Singapore? It's been mentioned she's only on a temporary basis in the U.S.

@SNTThree and @ITSRobert, thanks for the informative history of TWT. Maybe David Eades might move back to that role now? I've been seeing him hop around on different slots, like GMT, and weekends.
