Perhaps the female presenter of the 11am-1pm slot will start and finish earlier, limiting the amount of time any one presenter is on their own. If Joanna came off at 1pm, Jane could come on at 1:30pm on a very hectic news day, and Ben could work on his own for half an hour on 'normal work days - there's flexibility without adding to the team of 'existing presenters'.
I was thinking that Joanna could move to the 830-11 shift, Jane move to the 11-2 shift, with the 2-5pm shift then going single-headed, so afternoons on the channel (apart from 130-2) is only anchored by one person.
The argument against that would be that the 2-5 shift is probably the busiest breaking news shift. I doubt they will do that really. Maybe they'll combine the 8.30-11 and 11-1 shift?
Interesting tweet from news channel journalist Simon Waldman when asked about a permenant replacement for Carrie - 'watch this space but don't hold your breath'. Not sure whether that means single headed, rotating hosts or they just haven't decided yet.
