Considering 'bye' is under a second long, I don't think that's a good excuse. Anyway, it's personal preference. I just think it's nicer with a goodbye at the end.

In radio, presenters are told not to say bye because the station doesn't end. It invites people to switch off because it's over - I don't see why this wouldn't also apply to the end of the news handing to the regions.

But to be honest, I doubt people notice and I agree you should send this in to Newswatch.

I would argue a presenter just looking up, saying "bye" and then cutting to the local news would be far ruder than what you have at present.

Funnily enough, Nicholas Owen said 'goodbye' at the end of today's early evening bulletin, even though he usually doesn't. Anyone would think they read these posts Smile

I really hope they don't.

With any luck Martine Croxall will take this position, perhaps with Sophie Long taking the late Friday-Sunday slot. Sophie and Simon don't make the most dynamic pairing, whereas I seem to remember Simon and Martine worked well during their short stint together.

Or, for a 'different' internal appointment, what about Babita Sharma if she doesn't join BBC World News' daytime schedule?

I take it Sue Thearle has quietly left/ been dropped? Has she appeared since the move to NBH?

Martine and Simon always seem to get on well, but I do think Martine is doing a good job on evenings. Not too sure about Babita; I think the role will just be covered by the domestic team. It would be nice to see Ellie Crisell back on the NC.

No, Sue hasn't appeared since the move. I seem to remember vaguely reading about her doing some work for ITV (not news reading), but I'm not sure.

Single headed seems like a good idea, even though Simon works well with co-presenters, he is brilliant at presenting solo.

Or even if Emily Maitlis was to do a morning shift now and again with Simon, that would be quite entertaining at times...

I think Simon is good while co-presenting, but isn't as good on his own, so I think he shouldn't present solo. On the note of Emily, I can't imagine seeing her present more, she rarely covers other shifts at present, and considering she is acting political editor for Newsnight, she is already quite busy.

I think Simon and Sophie Long are a good pairing.

Yes, they have also presented together. Although many many years ago when they were both at Sky News.
