And Carrie Gracie made China Editor http://www.theguardian.com/media/2013/dec/20/bbc-business-editor-kamal-ahmed-telegraph
Does this mean she leaves the news channel?

Yes, it says 'The BBC said Gracie would not be directly replaced on the BBC News channel, her role covered from within its existing presentation team.'

Sophie Long maybe as she is without a permanent role.

Sophie Long does seem like the obvious choice but i think its a shame that Carrie is leaving.

Such a shame we're going to lose Carrie Gracie as a permanent presenter. She's by far the best woman on the channel. Hope we get to see lots of her reports from China and they're not just on World News.

From the release it seems this post is intended to be pretty high profile so I'd hope we'll see her across the news channel, the nationals and Radio Four to a similar degree as the Middle East/Europe/US editors, dependent on the news agenda of course.

So we could see a mixture of presenters. If Carrie isn't being directly replaced, they'll probably have alternating presenters, though most likely Sophie Long will be the main cover. It would be nice to see Kate Silverton back in the slot now and then, though!

Martine Croxall did well in that slot back in TVC so maybe she might appear occasionally as i expect will Rachel Schofield. As for Kate Silverton its unlikely in my opinion.

Call me a cynic, but the new business editor position is a bigger deal than a new China editor - yet the latter seemed to get more comment from Harding. Carrie Gracie is undeniably a talented journalist and I'm sure will excel in her new role, but I can't help notice that a previously unneeded editorship has been awarded to a woman (and announced) at the same time the BBC's only female editor is replaced by a man? At least they didn't comment on how great it was that Carrie was a woman, unlike when Mishal Husain joined Today. That quote's even in her 'Today' website biography for crying out loud.

Re: Gracie's replacement - equally possible the morning shift will go single-headed. Replacing her with Long or Croxall would require them to take on another full-time presenter, surely, to fill their existing role?

Not really - Sophie Long hasn't really got a full-time role at the moment, and surely they'd be cheaper filling with freelancers?
