This evening's Newsnight is a double-header, with Gavin in Washington and Jon Sopel in London. (Trivia time: when was the last time Jon Sopel did Newsnight?)
It was sometime in October last year.

It was sometime in October last year.
I think you'll find Jon presented Newsnight earlier this year - the same week Nick Robinson did Mon-Wed and Martha Kearney did Thurs (Jon did Friday).

Actually it changed at the last minute and it was Tim Marlow on Friday.

Actually it was listed as Tim Marshall, however Tim Marshall only did the "Review" part of the programme.

Actually it was suggested on TV Forum that Jon would not be presenting, due to a mix up in tv listings, however Jon did present.
Oh, what's this? Newsnight's blog, written by its presenter on the day Jon Sopel?? Quite clearly listing Jon "Join me at 10:30" Sopel as the main presenter and Tim "join us on the purple sofa at 11pm" Marlow on Newsnight review?
EDIT: I also like this bit of the page you linked to, where by you agree with my listings suggesting that Jon would be presenting on Friday and Tim Marlow presenting Newsnight review. Tsh.

So, tonight's late news on BBC One is going out at 10:00 on BBC One Scotland, but 10:30 across the rest of the country... How does that work then? I think it's happened in the past... are they really both going to be live?
HO
a) this should really be in the presentation one shouldn't it? (Not having a go, genuinely not sure)
b) They just do the bulletin twice - makes little difference as weekend bulletins aren't that dissimilar to regular NC half-hours anyway! I would imagine it just means an extra half hour of Mishal/ Emily and half an hour less of Anita and Clive.
