I suppose there's the possibility of a big shake-up after the 2010 General Election - Nick Robinson may decide that five years is enough as Political Editor at the BBC (or he'll decide to do four/five more years until the next GE).

Paxman and Wark may decide (or have it decided for them) to leave Newsnight - Paxman to do more one-off shows, etc, so there's a place for Robinson on Newsnight.

Of course this is wild presenter speculation...!

Well, without wishing to get into the speculation game (too much Wink ) Dimbelby won't be on Question Time forever, and I vaguely recall seeing somewhere that Paxman would be in line to replace him....

He has the crudentials

You can get a cream for that.

I mean to say that Jeremy Paxman has no specific background in reporting on Politics, a subject matter which dominates Newsnight, so Nick Robinson therefore has more of an idea what he is on about, because he currently holds Political Editor and has a degree in Politics. His knowledge of the subject matter might be more apparent.

Forgive the double post, I'm talking about a different subject matter.

Laura Trevelyan did World News America last night, for the first time (I presume). I'll upload clips to YouTube later so you can see what she was like presenting.

I know you meant "credentials".

I assumed you made the mistake deliberately to get a joke out of the situation.

Just like how you said Thomaz Schafenacker does.

They could quite easily move Emily Maitlis back to BBC London or News 24 or something, she's not really suited to Newsnight (thankfully her appearances on it are getting rarer) and Robinson would make a great replacement for her.

Really? I have to say I think Emily is great on Newsnight, to me it seems as if Kirsty Wark's apperances are becoming more and more ad hoc, which is a shame IMO

Kirsty Wark presents the programme quite often - she is down to present Monday to Wednesday next week - indeed she regularly does both Newsnight and Newsnight Review; although the other week, both programmes were presented by Gavin Esler; a first? Presumably Paxman is on his long summer holiday now, I expect we'll see more of the dreaded Maitlis in weeks to come.

I suppose Emily does so many generic BBC News things, the BBC News at One/ NC for example, so I suppose it's more than possible she get a permanent BBC One slot, for example if Sophie joined the six or something Emily/ Louise/ Kate would be the three competing for the One (presumably) so perhaps they're considering that? Or like said earlier in this thread Paxman could well move over to Question Time, or perhaps even Gavin Esler could one day move over to main BBC News (having come from the NC originally) or Radio perhaps?

P.S. I think all four current presenters are very good, but in my opinion Nick Robinson is much better suited to Newsnight than Emily Maitlis.

If Sophie did move back to the news at six she could then take the deputys job but personally think the rotas should go like this:

Breakfast: stay the same
News at one: louise/emily
News at six: George/fiona
News at ten:huw/sophie

I think she is well suited to the news at ten the most.

Newsnight: kirsty/nick/gavin (emily would move to the news at one and jeremy to question time.)

Does Huw Edwards still present the Ten O'Clock News or on BBC News Channel?

I have not seen him on the Ten for months, its always George, Sophie or Fiona.
