New sport presenter tonight on the News Channel, or has he made an appearance before? Mike someone?

I've seen him a couple of times over the past fortnight - no idea who he is though. He may just be filling in - we've had Lizzie Greenwood-Hughes, Carrie Davis and Alison Mitchell all around lately, plus someone called George. I'm not sure if Amanda Davies is still with the BBC - haven't seen her present for ages.

She did mention several weeks back she was expecting to have a baby, and was off soon. She is sometimes on Breakfast during the weekend. On Sunday, David Garrido did the sport.

The sports presenter is Mike Sewell; does updates on Radio 5 Live and (sometimes) Radio 4.

I think this has happened - I've definitely seen her on the 3pm bulletin before, Kasia Madera too.

I know these bulletins are very short, but given that only certain presenters are used for the main BBC One bulletins I am surprised that they really don't seem to mind who presents the shorter updates.

Nice to see Kasia Madera do the overnight shift while watching at 1am this morning. She's a good presenter.

Yes, I have to agree. Although I am not a fan (normally) of the continuous procession of new faces on BBC World, I have to say that Kasia Madera was very good indeed, and looked as though she had been doing it for years!

The Iranian authorities seem to be cracking down on BBC reporters, with the news that Jon Leyne has been ordered to leave, supposedly for the "distortion of news regarding the Islamic Republic of Iran and particularly news pertaining to the election". Jeremy Bowen is still there for now however, and I'm not sure whether John Simpson is also still in the country. I would imagine that the authorities will be aiming to remove all the BBC's reporters (and probably those of most foreign agencies) quite soon.

whoa... BBC World News America is being anchored today by an American.
the name is Scott Simon, I guess he is from the NPR. (Wikipedia Article)

Yep, just been watching that on the BBC News Channel.

An interesting new dimension to the programme, makes a difference from Matt/Katty.

Who presented during Matt's secondment to the Six last year?

Yep - he is a long-serving NPR journalist. He has worked for the BBC before - but not as an anchor on BBC World / BBC America as far as I know.

Matt Frei is apparently on assignment in Pakistan. Presumably Katty and Philippa are doing other things? I noticed Jamie Coomarasamy presenting last week.

He's obviously not the most comfortable autocue reader - and someone really should have warned him how you pronounce Rory Cellan-Jones (Cethlan rather than Sellan)
