Although with Roger Johnson on the NC again tonight, they must be pretty short of cover considering its such a significant news weekend.

Maybe, just maybe he has applied to do weekend work on The News Channel and this weekend is his first? I don't understand where this conclusion they must be short of cover comes from. Regional presenters often use there current position as a gateway to move on to bigger things like The News Channel. There is a fair few members on TV Forum who started in regional programming that now work in much bigger departments.

Here's a question.

I read somewhere(can't remember which forum?) around the time Suzanne Virdee from MT & Louisa Preston from LDN were doing the Breakfast news bulletins on Thursday & Fridays, in other words, they were Moira Stuart's covers, that someone said Suzanne was looking at doing other national work.

Did I remember right?

If it was the case, I'm intrigued to know why Suzanne hasn't been seen on the NC, yet both Dan Pallett & Emma North both make regular appearences on there?

Maybe you're right. I was merely speculating, and was not coming to any 'conclusions'. Perhaps I should have said 'they may be short of cover' as opposed to 'they must be'. If - and thats just IF - Huw Edwards was brought in to do the BBC One bulletins on the basis that this was a significant news weekend, it seemed slightly strange to me that a regional sports presenter was anchoring the NC. Plus, that will be Clive Myrie's slot in a few weeks time IIRC.

I don't understand why some people on this board find it difficult to disagree with comments without appearing derogatory to fellow board members.

Well how do regional presenters step up to a national level if when they do, people go on about them being regional presenters? If he can be trusted to broadcast to much bigger audiences on MOTD then surely he can be trusted to present on the News Channel. It's a bit unfair to keep commenting on how he's a "regional sports presenter" as if nobody in regional news should be allowed on national TV. If ya get what I mean.

A "regional sports presenter" doing rolling news is more noteworthy than a "regional news presenter" doing rolling news though.

Roger often hosts South Today though so not as if he went straight from sport to rolling news.

Probably not the right forum, but has anyone seen Orla Guerin recently? I haven't seen any sign of her for ages!

Well, she's been replaced in Africa by Andrew Harding, and seems to be in the role of World Affairs Correspondent - I recall that she reported on the aftermath of the Italian earthaquake, and I saw her recently doing a report about flooding in Bangladesh.
