I think the time has come for Mr Simon McCoy to be knighted. The deadpan way in which he read the headline this morning about a certain MP 'claiming expenses for an island for his duck pond' was delivered with such comedic timing that it made me roll with laughter.

The man is simply a legend.

AGREED - He's brilliant with Carrie.

He also got up from the desk this morning, walked over to Sally Nugent who was reading the sport and handed her a written apology from Carrie about some shouting that could be heard earlier between McCoy and Gracie. Great viewing.

Hey Darrengirl, this is the thread you want if you want to discuss presenters.

Go for it.

Looks like Sophie Raworth is going to be taking a month away from the News at One for 'Crimewatch Roadshow' in June. Jane Hill or Louise Minchin to cover I assume.

Perhaps she will be doing both?

Nice to see Luisa Baldini doing some presenting on the NC today. She's okay, nothing spectacular, but certainly better than a lot of other presenters!

Doubt it - When Louise does Missing Live (on at the same time too) she's off for the duration, with Emily or Jane covering her BBC 1 shifts. I'd imagine it will be Louise covering for Sophie with Emily or Jane covering Fridays. Unless they decide the One is more prominent than Breakfast at which point it will be Kate. Joy. Rolling Eyes

Nice to see Sophie get some presenting work outside of news - Natasha (while at BBC News), Louise, Kate and Sian (City Hospital a while back for example) have all done other work whereas I don't know I've seen Sophie on anything else!

By the way, with Sophie and Huw often appearing on the six at the moment, would it be fair to say they're covering Sian's BBC 1 bulletins - Sian relief presenting for George/ Fiona?

Louisa seems to be quite good on the NC by the way.

When is Sian expected to be back from maternity leave? Breakfast doesn't feel the same without her and Bill together.

I think she was off for about 7 or 8 months last time - vaguely remember her going on maternity leave in August and then returning maybe in early spring. She's been off for 3 months now, so maybe after the summer?

It was such a pleasure to have Alastair Yates doing the overnight newscasts for three nights running. Come BBC WORLD, give us more of this classy news presenter.

I would love to see him and Owen Thomas doing a show together. They would complement each other beautifully. I am not a Hockings fan - she is totally outclassed by CNNI's Hola Gorani, Becky Anderson and MZ Fionulla. And what About Mishal Husain - she is sensational!
