So much for leaving only residual presenters + Huw at TVC, Carrie is back.

Well as the regular relief presenters are going to have to pilot as well I'd imagine one of them is doing Carrie's NBH shift this morning.

Chris was one of their few presenters with actual on air personality, which suited his late night slot and paper reviews. Now he's replaced with a presenter that's total opposite to this.

Just to clarify, when they "pilot," do they do a bulletin at the same time as their TVC counterparts (except of course without the cameras)?

At the moment, I believe they're doing real-time pilots, which does everything the on air version of BBC News does apart from transmission, of course.

Yes, they are definetely doing real-time pilots, I believe it was mentioned (on Twitter or another discussion here) that they are going out to the correspondents on location either immediately before or after they appear 'for real' on the news channel.

for some reason, that gives me an impression that even if it's a rehearsal... they are still prohibited to make mistakes or at least have blooper moments.

Without the cameras? How is the gallery supposed to see the studio output?!

There wouldn't be any studio output without any cameras.

I assume (hope) the poster means, do they produce the regular studio output without it going to air.

I meant without going to air to the public.

But if there are technical mistakes in the pilot, things to re-rehease, or shots worth improving don't they inevitably fall behind/get delayed from what is actually on-air to the public?

I think it's a given there will be mistakes and things that need improving, hence why they do the pilots, and that pilot period is when they will try and iron out as many as possible and somethings won't get picked up on until they go on air.
