Martine Croxall is doing the Saturday evening news again, she did it just before Christmas as last minute cover. Looks like she may become the regular for it, like Peter Sissons was back when he did that slot.

Twice in the last three Saturdays once as last minute cover you say, may be a bit premature to speculate as a regular!

Yes but she had never done it before that despite being on the NC anyway - perhaps the big bosses have decided after she ended up covering it, that she might be good to just present it full stop and call in the more senior presenter for the late only? We shall see anyway - I'd say she's as good as any to present it.

So was it Martine Croxall presenting between 4-7pm on the News Channel at the time? Or did she JUST come in to do the teatime bulletin.

On Twitter she said that she was due to do shifts during the week to finish off six consecutive days of doing a shift, however due to being ill she was unable therefore we've had the likes of Ellie Crisell in her place... I think.

If Martine wasn't on 4-7pm today who was?

Martine did 4-7 on the news channel, as well as the teatime bulletin

Martine did announce Kate Silverton as the presenter for the early evening slot before presenting it herself.

I believe this is only the second time she's presented Newsday.

With Jon Sopel starting his new BBC World News programme next week, could he have already presented his final News Channel shift?

It will be interesting to see who replaces him on the 2pm shift. I'd imagine Ben Brown could move earlier in the day and Clive Myrie take the 7pm shift. Or possibly Julian Worricker/Tim Willcox pick up some more shifts?

I thought Jon was staying on the NC as well as doing World? Maybe not as much, but would be staying on the channel.

Either way, he cannot present 2pm anymore because it clashes with Global with Jon Sopel. When they said that, I presumed he would continue on the One/Five as a relief and present political coverage on NC.

They've already confirmed (at some point some while ago in some article I really can't be bothered to dig out) that there will be a new 'rota', so I'd imagine the shifts will change a bit come March (presumably) when the move to NBH is complete. So my guess would be Jon's exit from 2pm probably leaves a shift open (probably the evening shift) to become single headed, but I doubt we'll see that much regular single-headed coverage during the day (on weekdays).

Also, given he's only on BBC World News four days a week, it would be nice to see him share the Sunday evening bulletins with Mishal Husain. Though I'm sure he'd rather not work on weekends.

So who is going to provide the comedy now on a Monday afternoon??

Emily Maitlis can provide the laughs alone, I suppose. Laughing

I can't imagine she'd be continuing on the shift come the reshuffle if Jon has left for good though! Hopefully this means we can get Simon McCoy/Carrie Gracie onto the prime shift finally!

The prime shift is the morning - Simon/Carrie & Matthew/Jane. That's when most breaking news happens.
