It may have been a short notice thing with Chris tonight...he's been brought forward, as has Martine, who would normally be overnight tonight. I'm sure James or similar will be filling in overnight...

Another awesome duo tonight in the form of Nick Owen + Martine Croxall!

More like this please!

Is anybody able to take BBC World News' James Dagwell seriously? He's such a light weight. He just doesn't seem to have any authority about him to me apart from the ability to tie a knot in a nice tie!

I absolutely agree with you. I have been hoping to read a post from someone who has the same opinion on this issue as I do.

I think that "lack of authority" idea comes from the fact that he hosts E24 at weekends, plus the fact he was part of the BBC Three News team for 60 Seconds. He's also been an anchor on ITV1 Westcountry and on the BBC's red button News service.

I don't think he's as much lacking in authority as he is lacking in exposure on BBC News. He's overnights mostly, except for the weekend edition of E24. I've been watching him on overnights recently and he seems to handle things well. Occasional glitches in the equipment don't seem to trouble him as much as it seems to trouble other anchors. He seems relaxed and he takes it all in his stride. I don't think of him as a great anchor, but he's workman-like and decent. There are worse examples of news anchoring around.

I've just heard Tanya Beckett on BBC World News herald the G20's decision to spend $1 trillion on sorting out the global economy as though she were anouncing the arrival of the 21.34 at Slough station.

The Countdown creates a wonderful sense of anticipation and whilst not every lead story may be a historic world-order changing moment, I would have thought that the presenter should summon up a bit more excitement in their voice on the hour. They may be sick to death of reading the thing out every 15 minutes but the viewer may well only have tuned in to hear it once.

I approve of the BBC's dignified approach to newsreading and do not want anything like the hysteria that introduces many CNN bulletins, for example, but let's do it with a bit more gusto.

Incidentally, Tanya is not the only culprit in my opinion.

Looks as if Stuart Flinders' stint on the News Channel is over; he is now back, doing reports, for North West Tonight

I see that Kate Silverton's doing the Ten tonight.

With Ben Geoghaegan on Stuart's weekend evening shift for the second week. Really dissapointed that it appears Stuart hasn't become permenant - I thought he was a great presenter. Hopefully he'll at least do somer cover shifts.

Meanwhile Kate Silverton is on the Ten tonight, for what I believe is the first time (EDIT - As DVB just beat me to saying!)

Stuart had popped up from time to time on the News Channel for about a year before his "5 month stint" there. So, hopefully he will still be back as a relief presenter.

Cant believe they have allowed Kate to do the 10 - she all fluff in my opinion. Is everyone else gone on holiday?

Angela Rippon she is not!

LOL. Thank goodness for that, then!! We don't want anyone high-kicking their way through the Ten, a la Rippon! That would be a bit too much to stomach.

I hope she was wearing something a bit more sober for her appearance, though, and not one of those Breakfast specials.
