Hurrah! Hurrah! Hurrah!

Alastair Yates will be back reading the news from 9th September, according to his Twitter feed.

Albeit on Classic FM. But, what a voice be has for radio.

Just saying!

I might have missed this. Do we know why Alastair Yates left the BBC?

Retired, I believe. Might be wrong though

Pretty sure that is correct.

Just come across a video which Fiona Armstrong fans might find enjoyable... it's one of her early-ish bulletins for ITN. I think she started there in 1987 and this recording is from 1988: http://youtu.be/YNgKGsf2Lec?t=4m50s

Fiona Armstrong on location in Langham for Breakfast this morning - wonderful to see her out and about!

She was great. Very Happy

Alastair Yates left BBC News because he waited too long for a certain TVF member to do a decent mock of him in the studio with an acceptable Doily-esque backdrop.

Gavin Grey doing a daytime weekend shift on BBC World. He is rather good and his Paisley-ish Patterned tie is forgiven on the basis of him being an excellent presenter.

The smoked glass background in N8 does indeed look rather splendid, but one feels it would look even better with a frosted doily pattern.

*Cough*. Just saying.

Phill: Random question: is "doilesque" a word? I think it should be.

Why would you object to a pattern which originates in Paisley?

@BBCJonSopel: cabin doors to automatic as @maitlis and I are reunited for 3 hours of broadcasting, and hopefully no misbehaviour...

Fat chance of that... the two are like naughty children. Is "cabin doors to automatic" a euphamism?

Gav: nothing wrong with Paisley pattern per-se, but the Grey rendition was atrocious. I am sorry to say. His wardrobe manager have ruined a worthy Scottish legendary fashion icon.

Cabin doors to automatic could be a euphamism. It's the words uttered when an aircraft cabin becomes "sterile" and the automatic doors signifies that the escape slides are now LIVE and armed and will activate in case of emergency. If the doors are opened, the escape slide will automatically inflate.

The opposite is "doors to manual".

I think Sopel may be concerned that a blond Flight Attendant may, in fact, inflate his slide, and it will unfold uncontrollably onto the runway should the Blond accidentally activate the same.
