It's too much. I know we're not supposed to talk about it because it upsets some people, but I think I have Himfatigue!

I've just found these pictures whilst browsing on TV Ark of a gentlemen presenting the sports news alongside Moira Stuart, on a BBC1 bulletin sometime in the late 1980s. The description states that the gentlemen in question is a guy called David Icke, however, it does look suspiciously like a young Mark Austin. Am I right in saying it is Mr Austin? I know he was a sports correspondent at the BBC in the 1980s. Or have I ****ed up again?

Yes, it's definitely Mark Austin. In those days, Mark Austin and Michael Blakey used to alternate with the sports news at weekends alongside either Moira or Jan Leeming.

Michael Blakey left and was replaced by David Icke. But the fotos above are definitely Mark Austin.

I've actually got the last few minutes of a weekend bulletin on VHS from 1985 presented by Jan Leeming with Mark Austin on sport. It's amazing how wooden he is!

I agree with you about Mark Austin!

EDIT. Interesting to see, in the second clip, Carole Walker reporting on the cricket!

If it is of interest to he original poster - David Icke later claimed to be the son of god and started going round wearing purple track suits!

Fantastic! I really love that BBC News theme music, especially the closing sting.

Note that "Carole Walker" narrates the cricket report near the end... the same Carole Walker who is now political correspondent?

It sounds like her. And she's only been a political correspondent since 1997, and with the BBC itself for 30 years, so I assume so.

Yes, it's her.

IIRC, she was a Sports Correspondent in the early days, but never seen. Only heard.

Cock-up, Joanna Gosling! First forgot to put on her microphone, 10s later, next puts microphone on, another 10s, micorphone falls down top, camera catches her with hand down her top reaching for her microphone. Not like it happens everyday!

This featured on this weeks Odd Box along with Jeremy Paxman, Charlie Stayt & Susanna Reid.
