David, I was a moderator on here for 7 years. I retired in January 2008. It's because I've been such a long-serving member and moderator here that I feel so passionately about this whole topic. I remember how good TV Forum used to be. And let me just say this: I am nobody's puppet. I have my own opinions, thank you very much.

I thought you were a moderator and are moderators not meant to be neutral? And I do not like the use of **** - thank you very much!

for someone as obsessed with petty personal details as yourself you'd expect to have known that he retired as a mod many months ago.

oh and lets remember WHY you were reprimanded, because after being asked politely to post about rotas in this thread you insisted you could post where you like as nobody else talked back in here (ooh, i wonder why) and because you personally had not seen the long drawn out battle to get the damn threads split in the first place.

Once again I shall point out that this was a compromise for many of us who think this hideous and tedious cataloging of rotas should be banned. It's worthy of ntoe that Sky and ITV don't have presenter threads and therefore the exciting revamp of Sky news was RUINED by people demanding to know exactly why they couldn't keep their rotas to their satisfaction during half term week. I mean god forbid them having children and booking it as time off.

I don't disagree with anything you have written. I do enjoy expressing my feelings about the people who present the news. I spend a lot of time watching news and it is unavoidable to feel (or not) some sort of rapport with those men and women.

I have followed instructions to post my comments only on this thread and I would hope that people respect that, as things stand, I am permitted to post comments on presenters on this thread. I don't mind if no one reads them. I live in hope that some of my comments may be read some day by someone involved with drawing up the rotas for newsreaders because I think they should take note of what the paying customers feel.

No, sorry, feeling rapport with someone who doesn't know you isn't unavoidable. It's weird. STOP BEING WEIRD.

"Paying customer"? What do you think the £140 Licence Fee entitles you to?

You're a paying customer at Starbucks, but you don't get a say in who serves your double-shot latte.

Its not objectionable to have a favourite, or even combinations of favourites - but that's not what this argument is about.

Its totally wrong to discuss private details of these broadcast journalists. Speculating whether one is pregnant or not is no different (or less creepy) than rummaging through her bins to see what brand of panty liner she uses.

So get a grip.

How old are you Gavin? I mean, are you not spouting the traits you possess yourself. It's rather concerning that a comment I made about whether someone looked pregnant or not has turned into you accusing and abusing me to an extent I find repulsive. Since when does referencing someone's attire and asking a question make someone a creep, weirdo and stalker.. I mean, how dare you reference Jill Dando.

You need to have a good think about your posts before posting them. (EDIT)

I think that if recent discussion had been based on an article published on another media website (eg. Guardian, Daily Express etc., not including forums) with a link it then I think discussing it might be justified. If not careful there is a danger of accidentally invading personal privacy, and there is a term on this site covering this subject.

There's nothing wrong with what I write. YOU are the one who needs to think before he posts.

And if you don't like the Jill Dando reference, then stick to the remit of the forum, and don't pry into the private lives of professionals. Would you like to offer an explanation regarding what the hell a pregnancy has got to do with you?

Well?

And forgive me, Charlie, there's nothing "accidental" about Newsroom's line of questioning - its just sheer prying. Nothing less.

Robert Hall on with Sonia Deol this morning. She was in a white jacket with black stripes, very odd. The trouble with her is she just isn't getting any better.

Kate this morning, and looking like she's thrown her outfit together using my nan's tablecloth!...

In sharp contrast - how amazing did Susanna Reid look!

And you guys are critising someone for asking if a high profile presenter is pregnant? Confused

To be honest, asking whether Emily is pregnant or not has a lot more relevance than any of the above quotes (which all should of been put in the thread clearly listed about BBC Presenters and Rotas Rolling Eyes) - Emily is a fairly prominent presenter, appearing regularly on BBC 1 and weekend bulletins and Newsnight, meaning if she is pregnant it would raise questions some might like to discuss about who would cover for her.

A similar line of topic started when the first people thought Sophie Raworth, Mishal Hussain or Sian Williams (to give examples). I do not think this sort of discussion has anything 'creepy' or pervy, in a similar way to so many people talk (on other forums) about pregnant celebrities. Also I think Gavin's comparisons to what happened to Jill Dando were bang out of order and quite frankly shameful - how do they compare???

At the same time, many of the comments made on here about presenters seem very creepy and unnecessary and have no place here, or for that matter in public.

I wouldn't of said the Sky News thread was "ruined" by presenter talk, but was profoundly annoying. Perhaps a solution (as clearly anti-presenter members and pro-presenter members struggle often to get on here) is to do what we did on this topic - having a separate topic to discuss these matters for those who like to.

I don't want to take sides, as I am partly in favour of both sides, but please can we end this over-egged argument and get back to discussing presentation/ presenter talk respectively? Smile
