Not sure if this has been covered here already but the BBC's David Willey, who had been in Rome since 1971, has left (I think for retirement). Must have been one of the longest time periods for a correspondent to hold one posting, if not the longest.

Are you sure - Alan Johnson isn't the only Rome correspondent. Who is the other one?

All very quietly as well. I didn't really see him much anyway. Was he more on radio or worked part time or something?

Tended to cover the Vatican whenever I saw him reporting

What were the BBC thinking by putting a half an hour documentary on the news channel at 10.30. It may be a bank holiday, but this is one of the busiest news days of the year. Are BBC World News running a normal schedule today?

Specifically to annoy you. They could have quite easily broken away if anything BREAKING NEWS!!! worthy cropped up.

Although it did put a 30 minute hiatus on Rotawatch/portmanteauthon. I suspect this may be the problem.

Yes, World is running a normal schedule today, albeit with some fill in presenters in some slots.

Is Phil Jones normally on sport on BBC World? Can't say I've ever seen him presenting before.

I saw him once before about 3/4 weeks ago, I think. It was the London Marathon weekend.

He's been a regular presenter ever since bulletins moved to Salford.

Kate Silverton is presenting GMT today. She's done BBC World cover before, right?

Yes, she did GMT before.

Rico just said 'I do apologise for the quality of that interview'... It made it sound like the interview he conducted was not good. I think it was more to point out the bad quality sound.
