I like Joanna Gosling, but God does she suck the energy out of the news channel. She has no chemistry with anyone - Jon, the weather presenter, sport presenter or business presenter. Jon and Louise were brilliantly suited to each other - Jon and Emily even more so. Jon and Sophie can be a little flat, but they do have a kind of subtle chemistry. But Jon and Joanna - it's like the News at Six, but 24 hours a day. It needs more life than network bulletins.

I agree entirely with you House. I like Joanna and think she's an excellent newsreader, much better than some other so called news presenters, cough Ellie Crisell cough, but I just don't think she has the right level of charisma needed for the afternoon shift on the NC and with someone like Jon Sopel. If they want to move Joanna to somewhere else in the schedule, why not put her on 11-2 with Matthew, where things can be more serious and require less banter between presenters, and have Jane Hill on 2-5 with Jon, leaving the evening shift solo with Sophie Long or Annita McVeigh anchoring. Entering fantasy rota territory I know but that would be better IMO.

It is, of course, all just part of the usual daily McCoy FunFest! During today's broadcast, Martine Croxall and Sue Thearle were jokingly tweeting about McCoy's antics during today's and every day's broadcasts, noting that there's always some incident or other during a McCoy shift. Apparently, he routinely overfills everyone's water cups so that having a quick drink during a VT is a precarious activity that could lead to one wetting oneself, so to speak. LOL.

Otherwise in Presenters and Rotas: Adnan Nawaz was still on the overnights on Newsday last night, albeit doing the Sports News this time. At least the viewers will know who he is.

On BBC World, Impact will be with Karin Gianonne and Lyse Doucet next week, filling in for Mishal Husain. Nik Gowing will be back on The Hub tonight. Dobs was filling-in for David Eades this morning and David himself filled-in for Stephen Sackur on Friday GMT.

Karin Gianonne won't be doing World's weekend shift this weekend, so wonder if we'll get the excellent Christian Fraser again, popping over from Paris?

And finally.....................Ros Atkins doing his 21st successive day on BBC World News today (ok, apart from a day off yesterday), where he is not only doing his own slot but also filling-in for the absent Lucy Hockings.

And, that's the news tonight. Goodnight.

Yep - Sophie presented a couple of 2-5 shifts. I think it was just before the 2007 graphics change, so that would make it over 5 years ago now, but she took to it well I seem to remember. I think that was also the time where there was murmurings of 'making News 24 more high profile,' following on from Huw getting the 5 the April before.

Am I dreaming or did Natasha Kaplinsky also do a couple of shifts around that same time? They also seemed to use national news correspondents like Sangita Myska, Sally Nugent and Clare Marshall more back then.

You're not dreaming. Natasha did indeed do a few late morning N24 shifts with Matthew Amroliwala back in Summer 2006.

At least Simon was not actually on air at the time,

Unlike this one where the reporter didn't answer questions.http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/odd/news/a370301/news-reporter-asleep-live-on-air-watch-video.html

A little bit of goss for you - new Sport man Andrew Lindsay is engaged to Amelia Harris and they're getting married this summer. So we could be having 'Sportsday with the Lindsay's'.

And some more goss too: according to The Telegraph, Moira Stuart has now become Moira Stuart Limited! Something of an irony, given her previous role before becoming Chris Evans' sidekick.

But we love her anyways!

Double-headed Sportsday on BBC NC from Salford with Karthi and Katie!

I take it the screen has been moved?

Good grief, why is the studio so dark?! Really, really shoddy lighting in my opinion.

I think it's just a different camera position. I think Katie (pictured right) is sitting where the usual single presenter sits.

^ Yep, looking at the end shot and comparing it with other shots used before, you're right.

Agreed. I'm not sure if it's a case of not leaving the newsroom lights on as it's unnecessary to light an empty office, or if it's intentional because they think it looks better (in the same way they use a darkened 'nighttime' backdrop in N6 in evenings. That said, the on-set lighting looks a little off too - faces look a little dark in some places. Worth remembering there's a huge window looking into the newsroom, isn't there? I assume they haven't blocked it off in the way they have the Breakfast/NWT floor windows?

Any ideas why the sport was coming from London tonight on the weekend news, instead of Salford? Is it produced/ staffed by World News or something?
