Yep - Sophie presented a couple of 2-5 shifts. I think it was just before the 2007 graphics change, so that would make it over 5 years ago now, but she took to it well I seem to remember. I think that was also the time where there was murmurings of 'making News 24 more high profile,' following on from Huw getting the 5 the April before.

Am I dreaming or did Natasha Kaplinsky also do a couple of shifts around that same time? They also seemed to use national news correspondents like Sangita Myska, Sally Nugent and Clare Marshall more back then.

Odd to see Fiona Bruce on the Six and then Mishal Husain on the Ten, in the middle of the week!

The only presenters I've known, other than Huw (who present the national bulletins) to appear on the news channel were Darren Jordan (when he was working for the BBC) - during the 2003 power cut, he presented the mid afternoon shift after the 1pm News from Westmister with Carrie Gracie. I'm also sure I've seen Sophie Rayworth covering the odd shift on the News channel when it was also News 24 some years ago (with Jon Sopel on one occasion).

The likes of Charlie Stayt, Suzanna Reid, Kate Silverton, Naga Munchetty, Mishal Hussein, Bill Turnbill and Sian Williams all presented on BBC News 24 or BBC World before joining breakfast or presenting the nationals.

Dermot Murnaghan covered the Five sometimes before he left

Mishal Hussain did do some Gaddafi coverage on the NC (and WN/BBC2) last year and I also recall a very odd Sunday few years ago when she was doing the BBC1 bulletins but also did the NC evening shift with Charlie Stayt (so must have been before he joined Breakfast full time)

Kate Silverton did fill in on GMT a few times before her maternity leave (not the NC granted)

Surprised to see Martine Croxall on the 8pm update this evening.

Sian Williams even??!

Sian presented News 24 right from the start in 1997.

Peter Sissons and Philip Hayton also presented on News 24 after being a BBC1 newsreader, as did Michael Buerk on one occasion in 2001 after the 9/11 attacks.

I only said the above comment to catch Worzel out who wrote Sian Lloyd instead of Sian Williams before he edited it!!

She used to have a permanent shift, with Philip Hayton before they "fell out" and then Simon McCoy, it was the 9-1 (later 8.30-11) shift.

Newsday opened differently today, it was not live from Singapore. Have I missed something?

Great to see Kasia back!

Plus Kate also returned to the NC as cover a couple of times during the 2010 Election.

There's been a bit of a fail with the satellite links over the last few days. I imagine they can't double-head the show....

Ah, that explains it, they did lose the link to Asia Business Report yesterday.
