What does he do these days after leaving BBC? He wasn't very good with the serious news. I remember him on overnights, and he just didn't have any authority or credibility, unlike Big Al in those days!

Joanna Gosling doing a rare afternoon shift today.

It must be the first time in many years she's done one - only time I can recall her doing any other shifts, were an early shift on her own on Boxing Day and doing the weekend bulletins.

I seem to remember her doing one on the day that the royal wedding got announced.

Can they not get rid of Annita McVeigh from the NC? After Ellie Crissell, she has to be the worst BBC News presenter there.

Not as bad as Sue Thearle

She's not even on that much...every other week she only does Friday and we can see her up to 4 times at the most (and not even on the 'main shifts'.)

I don't think Annita McVeigh is good but she suffices and I thought she did well with the Pope's Visit coverage in 2010.

Unless I've misread a tweet - sounds like Emily Maitlis is doing the Ten this evening. Wondering if she is covering the bulletins tomorrow?

That's what I've noticed from @chrisckmedia

"It's very quiet on the Ten desk with me and @maitlis just head down and pushing on... #rts"

EDIT: More fuel to add to the fire - "@maitlis how's the head? I think I need a new one! See you later..."

Annita's a good reader but I find her very dull and cold in terms of personality. This was more noticeable yesterday morning when she was on with the much more quick witted Simon McCoy.

Ellie Crisell - ill suited to what is an adult news service IMO. Alright on the 90 second thing, but hasn't really progressed from her Newsround days.

I don't mind watching Sue Thearle, a good egg, but definitely much more suited and comfortable with the lighter stories.

I quite enjoy Annita presenting. She's no Simon McCoy but there is some warmth there. And she is good with breaking news

She is far better when on her own, such as the Sunday a couple of weeks ago when she covered for Nicholas Owen

But credit to her, she is the only person prepared to work with Simon McCoy twice this week Wink
