Today's NYE line-up on the News Channel if you're interested:

9.00 Tim Willcox
12.00 Rachel Schofield
4.00 Ellie Crisell
8.00 Martine Croxall

I thought at the time that having Ellie Crisell anchoring solo was slightly risky, as if there had been an escalation on the Gaza front I'm not convinced that she has the experience to handle that sort of breaking news on her own, though she did quite well on her own today, and of course the experienced presenters are going to want New Year off, so you haven't got much choice.

Indeed, stitch. And by all accounts, Chris Eakin was being hauled around the shops by his wife. Given the choice, I would probably prefer to have spent the day behind the newsdesk. LOL.

Happy New Year all.

For all the criticism Peter Sissons gets, he is priceless.

Just did a feature on the new Doctor Who and he said that although he couldn't call himself a fan he did have the theme tune as his mobile ringtone!

He followed that up by telling us we could 'have our say' on who we think the new Doctor should be, but that of course no-one would listen to us!

Sorry to see Chris Lowe retiring tonight - always a reassuring presence on the news channel of a weekend evening.

A nice little compilation of clips from his 37 year BBC career was shown just before 10.30 and a farewell kiss for Anita.

Oh that is a shame, very much one of the old guard and always as you say a reassuring person to have presenting and I always enjoyed it when he ripped up his lottery ticket on Saturday evenings when he didn't win. Laughing

I would love to see a video of that. Sad
Who will replace him?

Yeah, he was a good bloke and will be missed. Any idea of his replacement.

I'd like to see Stuart Flinders replace him. He's done a rather good on the News Channel in recent months. Then again, knowing my luck, it'll probably be Wilcox...

Sad to hear Chris has retired! Anyone else suspect we might not get a permanent replacement? The rest of the weekend slots seem to be more 'regular' than 'permanent' in terms of presenters, and what with the beeb economising I could see it become either a one presenter slot or random people!

Stuart would be a good choice, however is only on a 6 month attachment isn't he (but then so was Sophie Long and she's still around)?

Didn't realise that Stuart was temporary. Sophie bores me to death for some reason.

Interesting to see Kate back on the News at One! Seems like she doesn't actually have a regular slot any more since giving up the 8pm! Still I hear she's back to Breakfast soon so that makes up for it for a while I suppose.
