Is J Charles on holiday?

If he is, he must be relaxing under the studio lights of N8. I saw him on BBC World News less than an hour ago.

BBC World News is always recorded three weeks in advance. You must have seen one of the repeats.

Jonathan Charles was back behind the World newsdesk today, presenting solo and also with Lucy Hockings. He has been in India for the last weeks or so. Not sure why. He himself mentioned today on air that he had just landed back from Hyderabad.

Interesting info about J Charles. I wonder why he did not do any reporting from India while he was there? He is usually very good out in the field. He was terific in Zim earlier this year during the famous March 29 election. Mind you he was reporting from SA so he didn't have to dodge any of Mugabe's thugs.

I was pleased to see Dobbie on breakfast (05.00 gmt) this week. He is an excellent presenter and should feature more regularly on weekdays. I would also like to see A Yates doing the Mike Embley slots at 21.00 gmt. He was doing them about a year ago and then he was whipped off.
Why?

David Jessel came and went as quickly as the English summer. Will we see more of him?

Lyse Doucet is my favourite female presenter. She's lovely.

Maybe he was there on holiday? Or on assignment with something that had to be done asap (i.e. couldn't of waited a week while he reported from the scene).

Hmm...Mediaguardian reporting some breaking news that Justin Webb is to join the Today programme..replacing Edward Stourton!

New North America Editor then...Justin hasn't been in that post that long has he?

It is interesting tho...he left Breakfast News due to *exhaustion* IIRC...now hes doing the same time slot!

Interesting, can't see any official BBC confirmation yet, but it does sound plausible as he's often covered the programme.

Not sure who'd be the new editor - Adam Brookes, Katty Kay and Jonathan Beale have been in the US quite a while I suppose.

EDIT - Official confirmation now here

Says Webb will be leaving Washington to take up his post next October and Stourton will be focusing on other projects.

I fully expect that Matt Frei will get the North America Editor post with Katty Kay taking over the anchor desk on World News America.

... agree with CityProd as to what will probably happen, but would like Adam Brookes to get it actually, Brookes is a correspondent whereas Frei leads the show. Brookes when it gets to the nitty gritty can develop arguments well and quickly, whereas Frei does tend to waffle from time to time.

This is a plea to all BBC WORLD fans! Please vote in the News Presenter Of theYear thread.
It seems that fans of the oher stations are bulldozing their way onto the thread and BBC WORLD is lagging behind. If you are a true believer, VOTE. We need to support our station because it is the best.

CNN - too showy, loud and lacks substance
SKY - repetitive, boring
AL JAZEERA ENG - biased

BBC WORLD - BRILLIANT!

Come on, People - Fly The Flag!

Who had to do the Christmas day shifts on the news channel then? I saw Stuart Flinders in the evening and Chris Hollins on Breakfast - who else was on?
