How does airing a World News programme in one of the most busy hours of the schedule help it focus on breaking news?

Granted that was a mad idea... perhaps just getting Ms Raworth in to do 12-2 would be more sensible.

Just out of curiosity (ignoring the big news items, ie Press Conferences & PMQs) what are the busiest times in the schedule for the NC's Viewing Figures?

Correct me if I'm wrong but increasing the amount of hours of Single Headed presentation could mean going Single headed on bank holidays? or if they were going to increase it why not do this:

News Channel Rota
Weekday
600-830: BBC Breakfast with Bill, Susna, Kate and Charlie in whatever rotation.
830-1000: BBC News with Simon McCoy
1000-1100: BBC News with Simon McCoy + Carrie Gracie (Rachel Monday)
1100- 100: BBC News with Matthew Amroliwala+ Carrie Gracie (Rachel Monday)
100-130: BBC News at 1 with Sophie Rayworth (Sian Williams on Monday/Deputy)
130-2pm: BBC News with Matthew Amroiwala
2pm-5pm: BBC News with Jon Sopel and Jane Hill (Jon presents extra day due to losing poltics show)
5pm-6pm BBC News at 5 with Huw Edwards (Sian Williams on Friday/Deputy)
6-630pm: BBC News at 6 with George Alagiah (Fiona Bruce on Friday/Deputy)
630-7pm: BBC News with Joanna Gosling
7pm-9pm: BBC News with Ben Brown and Joanna Gosling (Clive+Anita on Friday)
9pm-10pm: BBC News with Ben Brown
10pm-1035: BBC News with Huw Edwards (Fiona Bruce on Friday/Deputy)

Weekend to remain the same but with Sian taking the job as main Saturday presenter on BBC 1.
That would give you 15 additional hours a week with 1 presenter and abolishes one female completley off the schedule.

So total number of hours single headed per day has increased by 2.5 hours...

...and to achieve this miraculous saving you've sacked Louise Minchin, moved Carrie Gracie & Jane Hill's shifts later in the day and given them both an extra 30 minutes per day and taken 30minutes off Joanna Gosling.

...more to the point... with 20% budget cuts expected... how is this in any way helping?

If youre really wanting to save money... scrap the 8pm "90 second update" - You wouldn't need Ellie Crissell or Riz Lateef then.

Make Newsround single headed as well...

It saves small amounts of money over sustained periods of time. For example wardrobe/make up etc. one less person to do each day saves time and money in the long run. It also would save on lighting and equitmen and would save money when hiring cover instead of using 2 freelauncers a day to cover Louise (who isn't really there most of the time) and who ever else is off you only need 1. On top of that it's good PR.

Good Luck getting rid of Louise Minchin, IIRC she's been there the longest.

I know Louise Minchin didn't get a regular slot until around 2003, but how long was she a relief presenter before then?

Did some minor research...
Jane Hill, Matthew Amroliwala, Chris Eakin & Maxine Mawhinney were there at the launch in 1997.
Joanna Gosling joined in 1999 on the Overnights as did Carrie Gracie but on Weekends.
Louise Minchin joined in 2003.
Simon McCoy joined in 2004.
Ben Brown joined in 2007.

These are presumably when they got permanent slots.
