Not particularly good, IMO. He has too much of a sports voice and sports demeanour about him.

It's a similar case to Biz Presenters who often have to fill in for news on BBC World. Although they are primarily business anchors, the following also have news on their rosters too: Sally Bundock, Maryam Moshiri, Tanya Beckett, Jamie Robertson, Juliette Foster, Sally Eden. But NEVER Aaron Heslehurst. And whilst he is excellent on the biz, we all know he would be naff on the news. Same applies to Matt Gooderick IMO.

Adnan Nawaz and Sue Thearle can do both, as can Celina Hinchcliffe and probably Sean Fletcher who does LDN from time to time. But not Matt.

Alas.

I think Sonali Shah might be used on there

Please, no. No. No. LOL. You mean as the Newsday stand in? She's not on World this weekend. Today it's Martine Dennis, James Commarasamay and Peter Dobbie in the line up. Tomorrow, Martine Dennis, Adam Parsons and Peter Dobbie, but quite a bit of input and simulcast tomorrow with News 24 from New York.

Sonali would be a great asset for BBC Breakfast, don't you think?

Yet curiously BBC World favourite Babita Sharma joined the BBC News channel a few years ago primarily as a business presenter - though it could be argued that she's a better newscaster than business presenter. The only reason I brought up Matt Gooderick is I seem to recall before becoming a regular sports presenter he was a regular on the BBC's entertainment news loop, which requires quite a different tone to sports.

Surely if Sonali Shah or Raechel Hodges were to be used they'd have to take a secondment from their day jobs, which by that point would be in Salford Quays?

One day BBC WN is going to start airing Breakfast. Not because it would make commercial, editorial or financial sense. Simply to screw with you, BBC World. And they'd repeat it, over and over. Just for you.

LOL. Please, no.

But, I am rather pleased that Sian is staying with BBC News. I feel that she would be rather good on BBC World. In fact, one wonders if she will become the new presenter of GMT, which is simulcast. She would be good on that actually.

Annita McVeigh seems to be making more and more daytime apperances - she's on the NC right now till 16:00, doing the second half of Maxine Mawhinney's usual shift. We just can't escape these Irish can we! Wink

I agree, Sonali Shah belongs on World, just to annoy you!! Is George leaving GMT or do you mean as Sian as a relief presenter of the programme?

I have no idea if George is leaving or staying or whatever. I was just remarking that Sian would be a good presenter for GMT, in whatever capacity.

OK, I see. I think Sian being on World would be surely a logical step-up from Breakfast and domestic news. She's also done a lot on Radio, especially Radio 4, so perhaps she could work on both TV and radio.

I suspect Sian will appear here, there and everywhere and then, at some point, a major slot on the BBC Nationals or (more likely in my opinion) BBC Radio 4 will open up and Sian will get a regular post again.

Victoria Derbyshire on BBC World News, presenting live from Guantanamo Bay. However, comms failed and we were taken back to the studio even before Victoria was able to say a single word.

Meanwhile, James Comarrasamy is so boring. Very dull presenter.
