A slightly different line up on the NC today in terms of presenters, Maxine Mawhinney followed by Gavin Grey. I saw Maxine presenting this morning at 9am, then tuned in later to see Gavin presenting at 5pm. Out of interest, what time did Gavin take over from Maxine, or was there somebody else in between?
NA
Maxine presented between 9 and 4, followed by Gavin who was on air until the BBC One bulletin just after half 6.

Oh no. Oh no. Not a good choice for World at all. She was woeful in "bringing-in" the latest pictures from Norway last evening.
What is happening at BBC World?
Newsround presenter Sonali Shah on BBC World this afternoon.

BBC News is run mostly by middle aged men. They like to see pretty young things on the tele... that's why there was such a hoo-haa about older women on the BBC NC (as in, there weren't any). They don't want news read to them by people who look like their wives.
Not in a million years would they put at 23 year old man on to read the news.
And to be frankly honest, I don't think they'd put a 23 white woman on either.
Reading the auto-cue isn't difficult, breaking and analysing world geo-political events is. Being able to conduct interviews with gravitas comes with experience that you only get from having worked your way up to the newsdesk. And Newsround to BBC World is hardly a natural step.

With the greatest of respect to all involved, I am the first person who believes that everyone deserves a chance when it comes to employment opportunities. But I really don't know where BBC World is heading at all. Principle anchors have all but disappeared and there is zero consistency on he channel.
I am sure Sonali is an excellent presenter and, as newscentre describes above, probably quite adept at reading the autocue. The analysis oft required beyond that and the handling of a major breaking news story: no way. I am sorry. And I mean no harm. Even more bizarre given the somewhat "heated" nature of the London streets at the moment, where anything could kick-off.
I fear that World is losing it's direction.

I was just randomly looking at BBC News videos throughout the afternoon on YouTube and came across two from the two main Polish networks. Both were covering (in-depth) Kasia Madera's career working for the BBC. It's really interesting how they cover it, quite proudly, as if to say, 'a Polish person can work at the BBC'
