I really don't rate Carol Walker as a presenter. As a reporter and correspondent she is absolutely brilliant, but when presenting on the News channel - she's constantly going to the wrong camera and really doesn't seem confident in her delivery or what she's talking about.

She's still a lot better than quite a few others.

I've read a little bit of criticism of Annita McVeigh in this thread in the past - and I really can't understand it. I rate her as one of the best presenters on the News Channel at the moment. Professional, articulate, and totally at ease with fast-paced breaking news, as is evident this evening.

More Annita please!

I'm sure she's an excellent journalist, and she deals with breaking news in a very direct and professional way, and in that respect is, as you say, one of the best NC presenters at the moment, compared to the likes of Sue Thearle or Ellie Crisell. However, in terms of on-screen personality, she does strike me as somewhat 'cold', and who doesn't enjoy too much banter with co presenters. Compare her to the likes of Jane Hill, Joanna Gosling, Carrie Gracie and Maxine Mawhinney, who while being very straightforward, professional and competent presenters and can deal with breaking news very well, also come across as having a very warm on-screen presence and personality, each in their own right.

Might be a case of who she is with - she certainly didn't seem cold here! Laughing

I wouldn't call Sue Thearle a 'cold' presenter - in fact, I think she's a very good cover presenter.

I suppose Annita's a really nice lady in real life, but just, in my opinion, isn't very natural in front of the camera. Slightly uncomfortable with the more light-hearted stuff. She's alright, but better at the more serious stuff such as the breaking news that's happening tonight.

As for Sue Thearle, I wasn't intending to call her 'cold', I think she's definitely one of the warmer presenters, and seems to get on well with her co-presenters, she's just not as authorative as Annita, Martine Croxall or even Rachel Schofield. A bit lightweight, but still watchable

Ellie Crisell, who I also referred to earlier - really nice girl I'm sure, and suits Newsround or the 8pm summary, but not the BBC News Channel, where I find her quite embarassing to watch, to be frank

Is that not because you associate her with Newsround? If she hadn't been seen presenting Newsround would you have a different opinion.?

Every newsreader has to mature and progress through the ranks, maybe the BBC think that the News channel is the next step for Ellie?

Maybe, but I think it's because she presented Newsround that she gets some of the criticism she does. It seems sometimes that she thinks she's still presenting Newsround, through the tone of voice she uses and dresses. Thankfully she doesn't present on the News Channel all that often, which is good.

I do think she's slightly improved over the last few years of being a NC relief presenter, just sounds a tad 'baby-like' sometimes, that's all

Ellie Crisell turns up at odd occasions, usually once in the week rather than all week - which suggests she is a very last resort presenter. She's okay but her reading voice is still very childish/patronising.

I'm not at all a fan of Robert Peston (Business Editor), I think it's his style of speaking.

His report in the national bulletin tonight struck me as a bit amateur because of his voices intonation and putting emphasis in the wrong places... I know it's not easy, but I actually find it really difficult to listen to him!
