Really didn't expect Laura to go, I thought she was just up and coming ready to pounce into a major role on the BBC.
Anyway single headed again at 2pm on the NC today - this time with Rachel Schofield!

Not totally surprising, as their doesn't seem to be any avenue of advancement in the political reporting team at BBC News, at least in the short term, with Nick Robinson as Political Editor seemingly not going anywhere, and James Landale ahead of her as Deputy Political Editor.
Wonder who will replace her, or if they will replace her? Will they try again for someone like Joey Jones, who got promoted at Sky News to Deputy Political Editor because he was being headhunted by the BBC, or will they just say "We don't need a replacement Chief Political Correspondent for the News Channel, they can just use the political correspondent on duty for all the stuff Laura Kuenssberg did".

Interesting observation by Tim Shipman of the Mail...
"Congrats to @BBCLauraK on big move to ITV. Surely the next BBC pol ed. Shrewd move. Bosses love to poach back"
And Chris Ship adding "Bosses love to poach back< Worked for Nick Robbo"
I find it interesting because I struggle to see where Laura could realistically have gone next at the Beeb before one of the main roles.
Edit: I suspect Laura will be replaced as her job is so key to the NC, but most likely whichever correspondent gets the job won't themselves be replaced in the Political Correspondent pool.

They could have given Laura some more regular, high profile, presenting work possibly (e.g. Newsnight) until a bigger role came up, but certainly no obvious, more senior, reporting vacancies available
Has she got any past business experience? Big loss for the BBC though
Does the BBC News Channel need a dedicated chief political correspondent though? It's not even like it has been a dedicated news channel position anyway and Laura frequently reports for BBC1 bulletins too

But she was awful on Newsnight. She tried to think she was Paxman and failed.

I think she's a little overrated actually. She just stood out as there's so few women doing politics.

Totally agreed - she put on this pseudo-authorative look on her face, but she just looked like she was really angry, shaking her head violently and practically shouting the headlines.

Your opinion would be more relevant if you remotely touched upon her abilities as a political correspondent, rather than totally superficial reviews of how she looks.
By the same reckoning you probably find Gary O’Donoghue equally "awful", being blind as he is and therefore unaware of how he appears.
Would that be a fair statement?

I think it's fairly obvious that the earlier poster was referring to the manner with which LK presented, rather than a comment about how she looked, as Gavin has chosen to understand it.
