2004-2005: That was the era of Doily, Jake and Martine on overnights, and also when Deborah MacKenzie was a frequent presenter. Alistair also spent a year doing the weekend shift (always mornings) on BBC World, whilst doing two nights of simulcast overnights always on a Tuesday and a Wednesday.

All things said, I actually thought Doily was quite competent and watchable on BBC World/BBC News 24 simulcast in that era.

Gosh I'd forgotten all about Susan Osman. I think she started presenting overnight on Sundays in circa 2001. When did she stop? Of course, during the week she presented Points West.

Adam Parsons solo again. But I don't share opinion of some others, I think he's fine. Cool

Indeed, he's alright. Can you think of anybody better and more suited to present the BBC's news channel of a Sunday evening?

Joanna Gosling, anytime. Very Happy

He's got one of those irritating and bland voices - like Chris Hollins does.

I agree there's worse people but I think many weekend presenters - Martine Croxall, Karin Giannone, Carole Walker, Sophie Long as examples, can do a much better job - as could other presenters from the regions such as Stuart Flinders, Ranvir Singh, and Dani Sinha. Fiona Armstrong would be superb if she was willing to do weekend work.

Get good old Moira Stewart back, she was BBC News!

So the BBC's hired an on-screen 'social media editor'? Let's hope they listen to us!!!

Anyway, I don't think Adam Parsons is that bad. I think he has a clear voice and doesn't over-emphasise things. And yeah right like Sophie Long would do better - I wouldn't even put her on the interactive news!!!

I'll hazard a guess at saying it was around 2004-5 when Al was still doing Sundays (if only he had Twitter, we could ask him Very Happy ). Sissons would do 1.00-7.00 on Saturday and 5.00-7.00 on Sunday, Al used to do 1.00-5.00. I think.

Wasn't that Philip Hayton's shift? Or did Alastair replace him when he left? The only time I can remember Alastair presenting daytime was when he worked with Joanna...

With Peter Dobbie being away and Owen Thomas gone to Bloomberg, an interesting array on World for the last two weekend shifts: Martine Dennis, Karin Giannone, Jannat Jalil, Komla Dumor, Jamie Coomarasamy, Madeleine Morris, and on Sunday, Shaun Ley.

Joanna Gosling with Clive Myrie first, but he left just before 8PM.
