So, where is AY? He hasn't been on for months now.

I imagine he's either ill, or he's retired without saying goodbye on air (a la Peter Sissons, only without the moaning about the BBC to the Daily Mail)

EDIT: You can tell Babita isn't used to N6 - she turned to face the opening shot camera at the TOTH as is sometimes used to show graphics on the Barco - but the Barcos were showing nothing and faded into the head shot as normal, so Babita quickly looked back to the right camera!

His biography has recently disappeared from the BBC Press Office site.

Babita Sharma on a dayshift today, and on the News Channel as well! That's unusual these days.

Not really, Babita's only presented daytime news shifts a handfull of times on the News Channel during her career. Comparatively, the main overnight presenters have always appeared on the News Channel during the day - including Croxall, Munchetty, Giannone etc.

That's not strictly true. While the examples you cite have certainly appeared during the daytime as well as overnight on a fairly frequent basis, the majority of overnight presenters in the past 10 years have seldom presented daytime shifts, including Alastair Yates, Deborah MacKenzie, Heather McCarthy, Clarence Mitchell and Rageh Omaar.

Now you mention it thst is true, I was mainly thinking of the main presenters of the past few years. Out of interest, who was the regular presenter before Karin Giannone?

Five, actually: Susan Osman. Jake Lynch. Martine Croxall. Deborah MacKenzie. And, of course, the now absent Alastair Yates.

It's nice to see a fresh face on the channel - but he's really not very good. We've not seen the Over 50s presenters since February either, it's about time they came back and made things a bit more authoriative - I have a feeling they aren't though...

Do any of you remember Joanna Gosling presenting BBC News overnight? When I started watching BBC News 24 in 2000, she was one of the main overnight presenters, along with Clarence Mitchell and Rageh Omaar. She then moved to present alongside Ben Geoghegan on the weekday morning shift when Jackie Hardgrave left. That was during the era that Bill Turnbull and Valerie Sanderson and Matthew Amroliwala and Jane Hill presented during the afternoon. Evenings were Gavin Esler and Carrie Gracie and (iirc), Peter Dobbie/Peter Coe did the late shift. Ah, memories Smile

I'd agree. He's pretty awful and bland in his delivery.
