I think it's irrelevant to discuss it here because it's obviously very difficult and we don't know the background... let's hope she can cope with.

Agreed. It's got absolutely nothing at all to do with BBC News rotas.

After an absence of around five weeks, expecting to see Nik Gowing back on BBC World tonight for The Hub. However, it's Peter Dobbie again, presenting on BBC World for the 30th consecutive day in a row without a break, including weekends!

Ah, so Nik's back and now we get to find out where he's been: The Arctic, for the BBC World Debate. Bet Peter Dobbie's glad of a day off now!

Kick in the teeth for the BBC surely. You get the impression he was quite highly regarded, at least as a 'star in the making'. I wonder who will replace him at World News America? My hope would be Katty Kay, though this would decrease her appearances on NBC programmes (which would be a shame).

Seems to be confirmed all over the twittersphere: Matt's joining ITN.

One wonders who will take over on WNA? Mike Embley would be a good choice. He is adored by the US public.

Oh, that's a shame. He is an outstanding correspondent and also a very good anchor. I think he wasn't too keen on the whole 2 shows 2 channels idea - and at what 4pm Eastern?! I think Phillippa Thomas is on her way back in so we could see her and Katty make up the anchor team. I was just watching the 5am World News hour and still, no perfect endings. Sally Eden, "so from Sally and myself goodbye!" As to which Komla pointed at her and laughed. Ha ha.

Louise Minchin and Ben Brown have swapped seats during the weather just now - that's a bit strange. I know they tend to swap each day, because the presenter to the left is generally the main presenter with the presenter to the right generally a secondary presenter - but I've never seen it during a shift.

Extremely surprised. I thought he'd be next in line for a Newsnight or main bulletin position, and be one of the BBC's top people for the foreseeable future. Great acquisition for Channel 4 News though.

A rising star? He's been at the BBC since 1986!

I think to be fair to Matt, the BBC would have plucked him to be a main BBC anchor many moons ago if that's what they wanted!

He certainly achieved a lot recently at the BBC in America, and also at home, with the documentary about Berlin that aired last year. Maybe he wants to go back to simply being a correspondent? Or maybe he is hankering for a promotion to come back to the UK as replacement for Jon Snow, when he retires. That's what Rory Cellan-Jones seems to think on his twitter page, anyway!

Big loss to BBC I think. Martha Kearney was thought to have been considered for that position.

Yes I remember hearing that as well, Whilst it is bad news for the BBC they are arguably the biggest news organization in the world so they can take a good look around and take the pick of the many internal candidates and if they don’t fancy any of course can go fishing round other organizations. As outsiders I would say Matthew Price , I know he has no experience presenting but he has spent time in America and has covered Global events like Matt but I realize it’s unlikely. My money would be on Katty Kay or possibly Mishal Hossain.
