The brilliant Owen Thomas is leaving BBC News to become one of the main anchors at Bloomberg Television in London. I wish him all the very best. We will miss him at World. Hope he manages to have proper weekends now.

Half-term indeed. Babita Sharma off night duty and doing daytime newscasting on World.

Monita Rajpal and Pedro Pinto anchor alongside each other on CNN International, and Chris and Rebecca Lowe did the same on BBC News 24 some time back.

I can't think of any other current-day examples within any news organisation, let alone the BBC specifically.

I realise this, but the issue I'm looking at is managerial chains not side by side appearances.

Does anyone know who the lady doing the overnight shift yesterday was? I didn't recognise her or manage to catch her name.

I didn't see the overnight last night, but am guessing it wasn't Babita Sharma, as she was on daytime duty yesterday unusually. Other female presenters who have recently covered overnights are Maxine Croxall, Kasia Madera and Deborah MacKenzie. I would imagine it was one of them (the three blondes!)

No, it wasn't any of the usual overnight presenters in this case, which was unusual as there are as you say a few people to choose from, maybe the same person will be on again tonight.

Kasia Madera? Juliet Dunlop? Deborah Mackenzie? Martine doesn't seem to do overnights any more, and Babita is the new Sun-Tue presenter. May have been whoever is replacing Juliet Dunlop. Also, is James Dagwell still around?

Thankyou, that is indeed the person I saw. Maybe she is going to be a new regular.

Rebecca Pike back on tonight as well. Doesn't seem too bad so far, though quite a few graphics-related issues (which is curious as the overnight bulletins usually run more smoothly).

Indeed, I think she was very good - she was quick, very direct and didn't stutter at all. Although, why can barely anyone on the BBC, Sky or CNN agree on the pronounciation of Ajdabiya?
