I had to admire Tim Willcox's professional response to the drunken lout who tried to interfere with his live report from Piccadilly Circus this evening.

I imagine that the "word" he was going to have with the man later, wouldn't be the sort that would ever appear on an autocue.... Laughing

So, after 32 years in the job, BBC News Sports Reporter Kevin Gearey has retired today. If Twitter is to be believed, the entire BBC News sportsdesk are all out at the pub to wish the man well.

Always a very familiar voice, but yet rarely seen on screen.

There is another Gearey now doing sports reports on one of the channels. Wonder if it's Kevin's son, or a relative?

Kevin Geary has gone > Rob Bonnet is back! (Or at least on BBC World, he is back. Haven't seen him on World in yonks.)

Paddy O'Connell, presenting Weekend World , quite repeatedly referred to his friend, Mishal Husain, as "BBC News Royalty" and, in his closing statement after concluding an interview with Mishal, "Mishal Husain - the aristocracy amongst us here at BBC News", or words along those lines.

One wonders if it was tongue-in-cheek, or is Mishal indeed viewed as a BBC News star? A Queen?

Paddy himself is rather good. One wonders if he will ever take on a bigger role in front of the camera on BBC World News? I note from his bio on BBC www, he is a popular presenter on radio as well. I remember him most being part of the 90's and 00's business presenting team, alongside Anna Jones, Adrian Finighan, Mishal Husain, Owen Thomas, Teymoor Nabili, John Terret and.....Mr. Quest!

He's quite an all-rounder, Mr O'Connell. He does a fair bit on Radio 4 too - you can hear him regularly on Broadcasting House on Sunday mornings, and is one of the stand-ins on PM when workaholic Eddie Mair is elsewhere.

I really don't like her as a presenter, as a reporter she's OK. Yes, it's perfectly fine putting over 50s on, but don't if they're not any good. On the 6am TOTH, her voice was so monotonous and boring, and her intonation is just annoying, plus she fluffed up the pronunciation of Ajdabiya, a town which has been mentioned for weeks on end now in the news. She wasn't made to read the autocue, but sounds fine unscripted. It may sound pendantic, but get her off now! There are loads of presenters better than her, and no doubt available to do this shift in place of her.

Wasn't she dropped, if memory serves me correctly, because of comments she made about the publicity-angle of the over-50s?

That's what I thought too.

She was presenting on the NC before the whole over 50's hype.
