Chris Eakin isn't at Bristol Crown Court, is he? An reporter, close to the BBC microphone, keeps asking the detective questions and sounds remarkably like him, but it was Jon Kay on earlier.
Edit: Chris Eakin broadcasting live from the court now.
The satelline link before 5pm for Chris Eakin was quite bad, and I wonder why he was Astoned as a 'News Correspondent' - it seems jobsworthy! It's a shame as amazingly, I think all of the correct presenters have been on today from 6am and it's unusual to miss his shift.

Interesting to see
WB 17th January
Newsnight presenters are Matt Frei (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday), Kirsty Wark (Tuesday) and Stephanie Flanders (Friday).

Jon tried to interview Chris about three times between 15:45 and 16:30, and every time they gave up because the link was so bad. Also, Jon described Chris as a 'reporter' at one stage - I wonder if this was a one off event or if it's a new position for Chris. The coverage today certainly didn't warrant a NC presenter to be there, though Chris did seem very effective at questioning the detectives during the Q and As.

Yes House, I thought that I also saw him listed for Newsnight this week too, although maybe I was in shock and went selectively blind?!! I also saw Jon and Emily, not as perky as normal due top today's depressing agenda, but a quick question - who's doing the NC sport right now, she looked like she ought to be doing the News At Six! Joanna said "Thanks Jackie," but who?
Have we just walked in on a domestic? Martine's just screwed at Huw for stealing the papers, I must say Martine's always good on the papers and yet John Hammond is still on the weather!

Today, Simon McCoy did the News At One, but he also did the morning shift, so, who did the BBC One Morning News Summaries? Was it the interactive bulletin presenter?

He did the 11am one - did anyone notice if he left his shift on the NC early? We he does the one normally, Juliet or Kasia present the morning updates. Sophie hardly ever seems to do the one, she hasn't done a full week since at least October.

When I tuned in at around 10:55 they were just coming out of a press conference and it was Carrie alone, and like you say Simon was then on the 11am bulletin a few minutes later. It's a better use of resources to use Simon (or Carrie, hint hint) from the morning shift if they can present the One too, unlike Jane or Matthew on the late morning shift who could only do one or the other.
Just out of interest, I've seen the BBC scoot Ben Brown in from reporting to newsreading in hours, so, yesterday did they get Chris Eakin to London for the late shift, or was it Martine Croxall?
