Possibly some unhappy 'second-string newsreaders' that were hoping for promotion but now won't get it?
Quote:
Edwards will continue to combine his new duties with his role as presenter of BBC1's flagship 10pm bulletin, a high profile position he has filled since 2003.

That will disappoint some senior news figures at the corporation, who had hoped Edwards, 49, would relinquish his newsreading role as he concentrated on bigger one-off state occasions.

"Some of the second-string newsreaders hoped [BBC1 6pm bulletin anchor] George [Alagiah] would replace Huw and that would create a vacancy at the 'six'", said the BBC source.

Sure. Confused

What's so astonishing about it?

My point exactly.

Did anyone really expect Huw to move on? I see him staying on the ten for a good while yet.

Loved this from Peter Dobbie on BBC World a few moments ago:

And normally at this juncture, we would join HardTalk with Stephen Sackur. We will go there later. But right now we are going to join the BBC News Channel here in the UK to continue on the unfolding story of the bail arrangement of Julian Assange, and our News Correspondent Daniel Boettcher is currently in conversation with the BBC New..............oh, in fact, Daniel is in conversation with my BBC World News colleage, Tim Willcox. Let's join Tim.......", or words to that effect!

And so we went Timwards, to find him seated alongside Fiona Armstrong and World viewers are undoubtedly delighted not to have missed out on our daily dose of Tim, albeit via a rather convoluted route!

Great to see Fiona on World too for a change. I was just about to type that she appears to be sat there like a spectator whilst Tim is handling all the breaking news and doing all the interviews. However, she has just piped up and done a few interviews in succession.

Tim now generically referring to BBC News, as opposed to the BBC News Channel.

Agreed - Huw is at the top of his game - he won't be going anywhere soon!

Looks like dear old Ben Brown has gotten himself into a spot of bother, regarding an interview he conducted last evening on the BBC News Channel, with Jody McIntyre

And quite rightly too, the way he was talking to Jody McIntyre was unbelievable.

I don't think so, it seems to me like he was interviewed as any other protestor and if he had not been then that would have been incredibly patronising and condescending. I think this is all a load of fuss over nothing.

Personally I found the whole interview, from start to finish, very patronising and unprofessional. Quite bizarre as well, such as when Jody McIntyre quite clearly states that he needs his brother to help push him around everywhere, and has limited use of his arms, then 2 mins later Ben Brown asks something like: "Were you throwing things at the police? Did you shout anything provocative?" I mean, WTF?!

By the way, more than 5000 complaints have now been made to the BBC with regards to this

5,000 complaints. I wonder how many were actually watching at that time of night.

Indeed - considering it was a news channel interview that seems a suspiciously high number of complaints.

The main point is did Jody complain?

I concur. He was treated no differently to an able-bodied person. We've been told for years not to judge people according to their physical appearance and Ben Brown did just that. But such are the contradictions of the far left - normally their message would be "we're all the same" but when something like this happens, they seem to change their minds and decide we're all different, actually.
