For the first time that I can recall since it's inception, Carrie Gracie is presenting HardTalk today. She is interviewing Valerie Amos of the UN, primarily about Haiti.

Carrie is good.

Chris Rogers and Ellie Chrissel currently patronising Britain on the N.C. It's like watching CBBC News. I'm just waiting for one of them to bring out a glove puppet and read out birthday messages.

Chris Rogers isn't bad when on with other presenters, but there is definitely something about Ellie Crisell's voice which makes her unsuitable for a proper, adult news service. She's better on the 8pm bulletin because of its lighter, speedier nature (though I prefer Riz myself) but not on the news channel. Has the snow limited the availability of presenters today? Ellie Crisell, Chris Rogers, Sue Thearle and Kasia Madera all seem to be short-notice relief presenters, rather than the kind who have consistent slots or are on for a week at a time, like Julian Worricker or Sophie Long.

Haven't seen Sophie Long presenting for a while, does anyone know when she was last on?

We seem to be seeing more of Martine Croxall, Ellie Crisell and Emma Crosby just lately. Even Tim Willcox hasn't put in a NC appearance since last Thursday!

Nick Owen was on the Five too - it's been rare to see him presenting anything other than the Sunday morning News Channel shift for a long time now. Was Huw Edwards presenting yesterday?

Nick was on the Five yesterday, George was on the Ten

Uunusually I suppose, World News Today has just showed a report by Tim Willcox on the history of the Korean Peninsula after the last Korean War. Also, he's been doing a lot of Impact/The Hub, so maybe they're focusing him on Asia.

Anyone know what has happened to Sophie on the one? This is now the 6th week that she hasn't been on. She seemed to have a few weeks holiday and then presented the six for a week but hasn't been around it a while. Jon Sopel doing it today.

EDIT - She's on the 10 tonight.

He was in Ireland last week, wasn't he? They're certainly utilising staff differently at the moment.

Nik Gowing is quite frequently away from The Hub these days. Not sure why. That being the case, Tim Willcox and Peter Dobbie appear to be the regular stand-in's when Lyse Doucet is not around to replace Nik (she is in Pakistan, I believe.)

Tim was on The Hub last night, and Peter was newsreading on the same programme (last week, it was the other way around).

Nice to see Harry Gration live in Sheffield, on the News Channel - I'm sure Christa has done the same in snow before.

Does Lyse still sit at the desk for this programme, or does she now stand up?
