I also think Tim Willcox and Mike Embley presented together in a World simulcast between 2130-2200 one evening a couple of years ago, during the Mumbai attacks IIRC.

Well there's a hark back to the past - Nicholas Owen and Julia Somerville on the News Channel at the moment.

I can't see that from where I am, but would imagine it's a good pairing indeed. Individually, both Nicholas and Julia are excellent newscasters IMO. I would honestly love to see them both presenting a mainstream bulletin together, although it is highly unlikely to happen.

Some other movements here on World this week:

Maryam Moshiri presenting the daytime business segments this week;
Juliette Foster has been doing Business Edition at the early part of the week;
Tanya Beckett is also back on Business Edition;
Babita Sharma has been newscasting during the daytime midweek, which is unusual (she is normally on at weekends, if at all);
Shaun Ley did weekend news, as I reported earlier;
Peter Dobbie has done a whole week of The Hub again (except for tonight, when Nik Gowing is back from his short stint in Morocco);
Lyse Doucet being done Impact Asia this week, whilst Mishal Husain is in Honkers;
Nisha Pillai turned up out of the blue this week to stand-in for Zeinab Badawi one night;
Jonathan Charles stood-in for Zeinab on the other night she wasn't on;
Komla Dumor doing news at various points during the week.

I really miss Nisha Pillai on BBC World. Along with Martine Dennis, Nik Gowing and Peter Dobbie, she is the only other who harks back to the initial days of BBC World in the early nineties.

How come Maxine Mawhinney never seems to appear during the week anymore?

Might be a contract agreement , Also the fact that BBC Is overflowed with female relief presenters and the arival of the older gils to ensure BBC's wider range of faces , Naga, Sophie Long, Sue Therle etc.

Probably the latter. They seem to have no shortage of female presenters - they are forever pairing them together!

Indeed, I remember just a couple of years ago whenever there was a female pairing on the NC it would be worthy of a mention on this forum (before my day, obviously). Nowadays, it's practically the norm!

Has there ever been any male pairings in recent years on BBC One National, the News Channel or World News? I remember Jon Sopel and Huw Edwards presenting together on the day of the July 7

Stuart Flinders presented with Alastair Yates in a NC/World News simulcast in July 2008 when Radovan Karadzic was captured.

On a different note, I've really enjoyed seeing Julia Somerville on the News Channel this week. She worked really well with Simon McCoy. It's a pity she's not on more often.

I thought I heard Sophie Long's voice at just before the 6 came on saying that "there would be more at 6 with Kate Silverton"

BBC news has just broken away now from the 6 with Sophie Long and Chris Rogers.

Anyone know who the Australian-sounding brunette newscaster is, who is reading the news on BBC World at the moment? Have never seen her before. Switched on after the start of the bulletin, hence missed the intro.
