When did Emma Crosby join? I saw her tonight. The BBC News Channel doesn't have the wow factor of the Sky News set but she's settling in nicely.
Tonight is her first shift I think. Next month she will be doing some shifts on CNN
Is she freelance? I didn't realise that. It's a shame she isn't on Sky anymore, she was very good.
I think she's freelance, I can't be certain. Since GMTV died, and she was made redundant, I suppose she's just looking for as much broadcasting work as possible.

Such a shame. She's a good newsreader and has some personality. GMTV was a bit too tabloid but she would be fine on BBC Breakfast as a stand in. Surprised that BBC News Channel uses freelance presenters. Is that common for the news channels?

The BBC has always used freelance presenters, Maxine Mawhinney, Sue Thearle to name just two.

I remember that Emily and Fiona have their own companies that then charge the BBC for using them...would that be classed as freelance?

Only in the sense that there isn't a direct contract between them and the BBC, but presumably one between their companies and the BBC. Natasha Kaplinsky also did this, if I remember correctly.

After seeing Emma Crosby on the News Channel, does anyone else think they could shake things up a bit at the News Channel presenter-wise? Without getting into fantasy rota mode, I would love to see maybe Simon and Jane on 830-11, then Matthew and Joanna on 11-2, maybe Chris and Carrie on 2-5, then Jon Sopel and Louise together in the evening between 7-10, and then put Ben Brown on the late shift 1030-1

I heard Tim Willcox is also freelance, hence why he's always on.

Louise never seems to be on the news channel in her slot or at any other time for that matter plus theres a rumour that when her contract expires at the end of the year she may decide against renewing before the move to salford keys. I think that Naga although i don't know where her positions stands with her work with Living should get a main presenters role or Emma or Katie Derham .
I would do it
830-11 : Simon Joanna
11-2: Jon and Carrie
2-5: Ben and Naga
7-10; Mathew and Jane
1035-1: Chris

Hmmm. Couple of points/questions there to raise from your post there ginofish
1) When you mention "Salford Keys" you do mean Breakfast don't you, not the News Channel?
2) I never knew Naga Munchetty worked for Living!
