Genuine question - is BBC Baghdad's Hugh Sykes related to Eric? I detect more than a passing resemblance between the two.

I really like Hugh's reporting style - like an old Uncle telling his favourite stories. I hope he doesn't mind me saying so. I could listen to him for ages.

I'm not sure if there's any relation - but you might be interested to know that the PM programme's spin-off, iPM, recently ran a competition to win Hugh Sykes. Or rather, a report by him, on a subject of a listener's choosing. In the run-up to it, they featured clips from the archives, and an interview with him about his approach to his work. The episode's on iPlayer, should you want a listen: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00t0kdz

Ben and Joanna are both on the news channel this evening...surely one of them could have done the BBC one news rather than have to take in Simon?
On another note, I haven't seen Ben and Joanna together since around the election - am I right?!

Lucky him. I've just spent a week of doing (on average) 13 hour days (did 8am to 11pm on Weds) - where's my group of "oh you're doing too much work" style posts? I've got a 22 hour day coming up soon, all part of the job.

Probably, but the news channel just seem to have adopted standard weekend practice yesterday evening

Emily and Jon have to be one of the better partnerships on the News Channel.
