You'd expect Tim Willcox to stay, knowing his reputation - but Fiona has presented with another female before, she did the 18:30-21:30 shift with Karin Giannone a few weeks back..
Fiona Armstrong's 9-11am is continuing into the next shift. Tim Wilcox has left and Fi has been joined by Sue Thearle. I believe this is her first stint with a fellow female. Someone not turned up to work?

Having listened to it again, I have to agree, House, you're right. The levels seem okay (although I'm not a sound engineer). Thinking about it, I'm wondering whether it was a bit like the aural equivalent of an optical illusion, in that the over-emphasis in parts made me think they were loud, when in fact they weren't.
And I agree that's a bit of a non-issue in that once she gets more used to the autocue it'll come more naturally. I remember when I first started doing radio off scripts and my playbacks were dreadfully wooden and over-emphasised to start off with - luckily they were pre-recorded and not live, and therefore I had the option to re-record.
And in that YouTube clip, she fluffed a line or two when doing tomorrow's headlines, but I didn't mention that, because I figured that even the very best of presenters occasionally fluff a line, that's no biggy.
Anyway, she'll be up again in a few minutes...
Having just started Newsnight on iPlayer, I wouldn't say Laura was shouting at the start at all - in fact if you close your eyes she's quite calm. It's her over-emphasised expressions, nodding and swaying which was most noticeable - something I'm sure she'll get over once on the autocue for a bit.

Some clips from Friday's show for the record/those of you without iPlayer. As usual the paper graphics failed!

I thought she was good.
She managed the studio interview well, when the guests were bickering about statistics and talking over one another, she regained control easily and wasn't flustered.
All in all, I like her in the role so far, she seems a good fit, assertive enough when needed, to keep the guests in check and steer the interview back on course, and she also comes across as having a personality and a sense of humour (when referring to the light-hearted David Miliband party story).
She's a keeper, imho. I hope she gets to do some more presenting on Newsnight.

Hello, I'm new around these parts but bought I'd add my two cents on Kuennsberg presenting Newsnight. On Friday's programme she seemed to be asking every question in a slightly strange way - it seemed quite stagey, as though they were carefully rehearsed lines, rather than a response to the interviewee ...
Sorry, I haven't explained it very well, but perhaps people who saw it can suggest a better explanation.
Otherwise she seemed to do well - the questions herself and her presenting style seemed on the whole very good. Didn't think there was anything wrong with her pronunciation on either of the nights.
Although she shouldn't have scrambled around on the floor as the camera tracked away at the end! Looked a bit awkward ...

Kasia Medera doing a doubler, 0830 with Tim W, now the 1100 shift with Jane H. Suppose Ben B's location move to Pakistan has caused rota issues.

Was nice to see Mr. Yates a few days ago on the overnights. I thought he had left completely.

God no! Alistair does quite a lot of overnights - he's the main on Saturdays, a regular on Sundays and makes frequent appearances during the week.
A very good presenter. I do think the current overnight team, which includes Yates, Martine Croxall, Juliet Dunlop, James Dagwell, Babita Sharma and Kasia Madera is strong, and the latter four have improved hugely since their regular overnight shifts began, prepping them hopefully for the future.
But I would rather see more of Alistair during the day - a nice Saturday/ Sunday shift would be great - and Martine Croxall has to be given a prominent role sooner or later. She's a much stronger presenter than others.
