If you mean why haven’t I watched it because if find Itv news at 6:30 better.

if you mean why do I think they need to make it double headed because there is lack of opportunity on the main programmes and there is a pool of relief presenters which make It messy and they have perfect choices in Katie Derham who’s just signed and after the proms will be free to do other stuff for the bbc and Kate Silverton.

Also BBC News needs a bit of a reshuffle and this could be part of it.

I don't think they need much of a reshuffle. Huw, George, Sophie and Fiona are great where they are - why change that?

To be fair I think the News Channel could do with a bit more consistency in its presenters - someone like Louise Minchin seems to end up off the NC more than she is on and I don't see this obsession with using presenters like Ellie Crisell over firm faces of the NC such as Maxine Mawhinney or Martine Croxall. I don't think George's more serious tone is best suited to the Six, a programme far lighter than it once was.

If anything George should replace Fiona as Friday Tens (he could continue to present GMT four days a week), with Fiona and Sophie (or someone else - who cares?) sharing the Six (I say this because I doubt Fiona wants a four days a week job on the news desk).

The Beeb also doesn't make best use (in my opinion, at least) of Jane Hill and Jon Sopel. Otherwise it's fine as it is. Definitely no need for a double-headed Six - the programme is better for having a sole anchor now.

I Agree with the Louise Minchin infact out of the the times ive ever seen the 2-5 slot she has only ever been there once .

I Think the 6 should be double headed as it suited it and oftern when there is a story which requires a location that would help also I think if there going to have a schedule stick to it eg. Ben brown ive seen on at 11-2 and 2-5 , Jane Hill ive seen on 7-10 etc. if they did a reshuffle like this and then stuck to it would work .
example schedule
830-11 : Simon and Joanna
11-2: Jon and Carrie
2-5: Ben and Naga (Emily continues on monday)
5-6 : Huw/Gavin
7-10: Mathew and Jane
1035-1: Chris .

1: Sophie
6: George and Kate
10: Huw or Fiona

Weekend
Main Sat: Katie Derham (after the proms)
Main Sun: Michel

Presenters are on holiday at this time of year. Sopel did a stint in Washington and hasn't been seen since. Ben Brown is probably on holiday too as is Eakin etc...

The News Channel are not obsessed with using people like Ellie, they're available, they'll get rostered, as does Kasia etc.. Who says Maxine wants anymore shifts? Paxman always takes the whole summer off, and for those who may think he's planning on moving on anytime soon.... don't hold your breaths.

I'm not referring to this precise moment - why would you assume that? Louise Minchin regularly covers on the News at One (which usually limits her to just three days a week on the NC), Breakfast (for which she is currently the weekend presenter), live BBC One daytime programmes like "Missing Live" and "Real Rescues" which again prevent her presenting news and most recently The One Show.

Clearly Sopel, Eakin and Brown are on holiday - and Tim Wilcox, Clive Myrey and Julian Worricker are more than capable of covering. The difference is Ellie Crisell was on the NC the other afternoon (to be fair she has improved, but not that much) while Kasia Madera - much newer to NC presenting but equally much better - was stuck on Red Button updates.

I'd much rather weekend presenters - such as Annita McVeigh, Maxine Mawhinney and Sophie Long - covered for their weekday counterparts and presenters such as Ellie Crisell presented in place of them. The difference is a weekend presenter is potentially about to get made redundant - as might Kasia Madera - when lesser presenters such as Ellie Crisell will most likely be kept.

Also Newsroom, nobody is expecting Paxman to retire any time soon - least because he's on holiday. It's about discussing future possibilities - it might be that the BBC decide they're tired of him in a years time. Crazier decisions have been made at that organisation before.

You really think Katie quit ITV to present Saturdays on the BBC? She's quit newsreading now, it would appear, anyway.

Speaking of Tim, he was back on BBC World today, filling-in for Lyse Doucet who is currently in Islamabad. Tim has a tan, so I assume he's just back from holiday, refreshed for 24 shifts on the telly!

Impact Asia didn't air today Friday as it has done for the last couple of weeks, probably because Mishal Husain is working on something else today. I can't understand why they don't show it 5 days a week, with simply a replacement on a Friday, just like they do on GMT??

Would be sad to see Kasia Madera going..............................she is very good.

Indeed she is, and hopefully they'll find a way of keeping her and Juliet now that Tasmin is leaving.

Fair enough, but "lack of opportunity" shouldn't really come into it, in my opinion. They don't owe anybody the opportunity to be on the main bulletins. At the end of the day, reading a 30 minute scripted bulletin should only really be a one person job in my view. It shouldn't particularly over-exert any established journalist.

Well remember she used to be the fill in female presenter on The Daily Politics before Jo Coburn came along....

Thers been quite a few presenters between Laura's relief presenting days and the present. IIRC Laura was the relief presenter for Daisy Sampson (as she was then). Since Daisy left there was Jenny Scott then Anita Anand (who's now on maternity leave).

Jo joined the Daily Politics in 2007

She has only been the main female presenter since Anita went on maternity leave at the start of the year

They're really getting their use out of Kate as she just presented Sunday news for the first time and has been doing four days a week on the News at One these past two weeks.

According to her twitter she is doing the one this week and will also be on the 6 too.

Owen Thomas is the new Peter Dobbie who's the new Tim Willcox. Every time I put on World Owen and Peter are on! Just as well they're the most likeable presenters on the channel.

I agree, newscentre. And it takes me back to the channel 15 years ago, when both of them were also frequent anchors on BBC World. (Peter as a newscaster, and Owen entirely Business News, as were Quest, Husain, Jones and Finighan all on Biz!)

Them were the days..............................

Tim giving up the mantle? Can't imagine that.
