I'm not all that keen on her myself, but it'll be interesting to see how she adapts to the studio presenting role. Personally, I think Jon Sopel would be the best choice as and when a vacancy for Newsnight presenter comes up (presumably when Paxman moves).

There's so many places where I could see Jon Sopel being a good asset. I personally think he's the best presenter at the BBC. Can turn his hand to anything easily.

Well remember she used to be the fill in female presenter on The Daily Politics before Jo Coburn came along....

As for Newsnight...Nick Robinson was such a breath of fresh air when he anchored it last year...he would be a good replacement when the time comes. Shame we haven't seen Eddie Mair on it for a few years now (IIRC was either 2004 or 2005 the last time he was a relief summer presenter)

Have been enjoying Emily and Kirsty at the helm this week...

I agree when Jeremy leaves Nick would be perfect and I've really enjoyed seeing Emily and Kirsty presenting a lot more since Jeremy has been on his holidays.

Agreed about Sopel, he'd be a good choice for BBC News Political Editor too. As mentioned, it'd be nice to see Eddie Mair and Nick Robinson on Newsnight again, and it would be interesting to see some of the Newsnight reporters in the studio presenting role, Michael Crick, Paul Mason, Peter Marshall? Anyway, Laura Kuenssberg can't be any worse than Jeremy Vine was.

Personally when Paxman moves on I'd rather see Gavin go with him, and Nick joining Kirsty and Emily. Four presenters is quite unnecessary, and in my opinion both Kirsty and Emily have more than earned their places at the Newsnight desk.

I actually think Emily is better suited to Newsnight (and the news channel) than BBC 1 bulletins - there's something about her that doesn't work for a relatively dull, forumalic bulletin like the One.

I think Gavin's great but perhaps better suited to another bulletin - he's the only presenter on par with Huw on the five and I'd love to see him move over to the Six or Ten.

Laura on Newsnight - I'd rather see Jon or Nick if I'm honest but could be worth a watch. Laura's very well respected in the corridors of Westminster so definitely one to watch for the future.

And in regards to Jon Sopel - most certainly my choice for Huw or George's replacements in the future. A team of Jon, Mishal, Sophie and Matt (Frei) on the main bulletins would indeed be a compelling team - the other presenter I'd love to see more on daytime though (other than Sian and actually Susanna) is Bill. Bill on the Six instead of Kate or Fiona would definitely be a pleasant change.

I Havent watched the 6 in quite some time but I think they need to make it double headed Maybe Kate Silverton or recent signing Katie Derham.

I Would swap Huw and George Slots and put Gavin or Nichlous Owen on in deputy slots.

Keep sophie on the lunchtime news and see less of her on the later programmes or even fling her on The NC and give one of the two I meantioned above a chance.

If you mean why haven’t I watched it because if find Itv news at 6:30 better.

if you mean why do I think they need to make it double headed because there is lack of opportunity on the main programmes and there is a pool of relief presenters which make It messy and they have perfect choices in Katie Derham who’s just signed and after the proms will be free to do other stuff for the bbc and Kate Silverton.

Also BBC News needs a bit of a reshuffle and this could be part of it.

I don't think they need much of a reshuffle. Huw, George, Sophie and Fiona are great where they are - why change that?

By reshuffle I meant studio , newschannel , make the 6 double headed and have new relief presenters etc .

To be fair I think the News Channel could do with a bit more consistency in its presenters - someone like Louise Minchin seems to end up off the NC more than she is on and I don't see this obsession with using presenters like Ellie Crisell over firm faces of the NC such as Maxine Mawhinney or Martine Croxall. I don't think George's more serious tone is best suited to the Six, a programme far lighter than it once was.

If anything George should replace Fiona as Friday Tens (he could continue to present GMT four days a week), with Fiona and Sophie (or someone else - who cares?) sharing the Six (I say this because I doubt Fiona wants a four days a week job on the news desk).

The Beeb also doesn't make best use (in my opinion, at least) of Jane Hill and Jon Sopel. Otherwise it's fine as it is. Definitely no need for a double-headed Six - the programme is better for having a sole anchor now.

Presenters are on holiday at this time of year. Sopel did a stint in Washington and hasn't been seen since. Ben Brown is probably on holiday too as is Eakin etc...

The News Channel are not obsessed with using people like Ellie, they're available, they'll get rostered, as does Kasia etc.. Who says Maxine wants anymore shifts? Paxman always takes the whole summer off, and for those who may think he's planning on moving on anytime soon.... don't hold your breaths.
