So Robert Peston presented the Politics Show today. Maybe if BBC News are short staffed this summer he could present an hour or two on the News Channel or a weekend BBC News bulletin? That would certainly be strange.

Hasn't Robert Peston been suggested as a replacement for Nick Robinson as the BBC's Political Editor if Nick moves to The Today programme?

Peston is in the frame for Radio Four Controller.

Indeed. In the article DVB Cornwall quotes:

Quote:
The news may surprise some as it was thought within the media industry that Peston may succeed political editor Nick Robinson, who has been widely tipped to move to Radio 4's Today programme.

what's Jon Sopel doing speaking to England fans out in South Africa anyway? isn't politics his main brief. or this about the BBC keeping all their egos happy?

Jon Sopel covers a variety of areas on outside broadcasts. He has considerable experience and for that is ideal to be over in South Africa.

yes but he's far from the only one with such experience. I'm never one to complain about the BBC's personnel decisions but this one looks as if they want to give their big names some time out in the sun.

well said! Ben Brown is already over there and some of the sports presenters...isnt that enough?! And anyway, now that England are out, I doubt we'll get as heavy coverage as we've been getting!

I''m surprised they've sent Ben Brown as well, he doesn't come across as the most obvious person to be the World Cup presenter for BBC News.

I believe Sopel is a swap for Brown, not an addition.
