Robert Peston in the frame for Radio 4 controller job
Exclusive: BBC business editor Robert Peston understood to have been interviewed last week for the post
BBC business editor Robert Peston has emerged as one of the candidates for the job of Radio 4 controller.
The charismatic Peston is understood to have been interviewed by the BBC last week in an attempt to whittle down the number of applicants to find a successor to Mark Damazer, who leaves in September.
The news may surprise some as it was thought within the media industry that Peston may succeed political editor Nick Robinson, who has been widely tipped to move to Radio 4's Today programme.
Ben Brown is having a nice holiday in South Africa. Well for some.
So is David Eades. (but at least David seems to know what he is talking about when it comes to football. Loved him being mobbed by the Algerian supporters during a "live" today and ending up wrapped up in the Algerian flag.)
Why is the BBC not getting more stick for sending so many reporters to South Africa and other similar events. Absolutely no need for Brown being there and as someone mentioned, it does appear as if he's not a great football fan anyway.
Must agree. I think Lizzie Greenwood-Hughes was more qualified to cover the Grand National than BB the football (and I was furious about that at the time).
Not a news item, a sports item thus let the sports anchors cover it. Unless this is part of Ben's holiday allowance, it is not a worthwile use of my license fee (nor is johnathan ross)

Jon Sopel made a comment this week to Louise Minchin about replacing Ben next week, which presumably means unnecessary flight costs?
The Event is more than a sporting one though, every major broadcaster has a NEWS presence there, even non rights holders. Having an established anchor there is prudent in case of an incident occurring. Using sports presenters to cover the news agenda really doesn't. work.
